Doing something that will make you feel good about yourself is a great way to improve mental health and emotional wellbeing

9/21/2024

When you take time to do something that makes you feel good about yourself, whether it is buying a special treat or taking a day off to focus on your personal desires... it can significantly improve your mental health and emotional well-being in several ways:

1. Self-Care and Self-Compassion
Doing something kind for yourself is a form of self-care, which is crucial for maintaining emotional balance. When you take time to indulge in something that brings you joy or relaxation, you signal to yourself that your well-being matters. This can foster self-compassion, which reduces self-criticism and enhances emotional resilience.

2. Stress Relief and Relaxation
Whether it is enjoying a treat or taking a day off, these acts help to break the cycle of daily stress. Constant pressure from work, responsibilities, or life challenges can build up and negatively impact mental health. By taking a break to do something enjoyable, you give your brain and body time to relax and recover, lowering cortisol levels and promoting a sense of peace.

3. Boosting Dopamine and Serotonin
Engaging in pleasurable activities, such as buying something you love or indulging in a hobby, can trigger the release of dopamine, the "feel-good" neurotransmitter, and serotonin, which helps regulate mood. These chemicals are associated with happiness, reward, and relaxation, creating an uplift in mood and promoting emotional well-being.

4. Creating Positive Associations
When you reward yourself with a treat or time off, you create positive associations between effort and self-reward. This reinforces a healthier relationship with work and productivity. Over time, this helps mitigate burnout by creating mental balance between work and leisure, showing yourself that hard work can lead to personal satisfaction.

5. Improving Work-Life Balance
Taking time off from work to do what you truly want allows you to nurture interests and hobbies outside of professional obligations. It encourages you to reclaim time for yourself, which improves work-life balance. This balance is essential for preventing burnout and maintaining emotional stability, as it helps prevent feelings of being overwhelmed or trapped by responsibilities.

6. Strengthening Self-Worth
When you take deliberate steps to care for yourself, it can strengthen your sense of self-worth. You acknowledge your needs, which reinforces the belief that you deserve kindness and joy. This can elevate your emotional well-being by reducing feelings of inadequacy or guilt that might come from constantly putting others' needs ahead of your own.

7. Mindfulness and Presence
When you engage in activities that you love, such as eating a favorite food or engaging in a cherished hobby, you are more likely to be mindfully present. Being fully absorbed in something you enjoy allows you to momentarily step away from worries and anxieties, which can improve emotional health by cultivating calmness and reducing mental overload.

Such acts of self-kindness help to recharge your emotional batteries, allowing you to approach life with greater enthusiasm, resilience, and emotional strength. Whether it is treating yourself or simply taking a break, giving yourself permission to prioritize your happiness is essential for maintaining a balanced and healthy mental state.

Discover your soul's purpose... The Role of Spiritual Ascension in Leading a Fulfilling Life

11/8/2023

Discovering your soul's purpose is a profound journey that many individuals embark upon, especially as they delve into spiritual practices and seek deeper meaning in life.

Spiritual ascension, or the raising of one's consciousness and vibrational frequency, can play a pivotal role in unveiling this purpose and achieving a sense of life fulfillment.

This is how spiritual ascension can guide you to discover your soul's purpose:

1. Heightened Self-Awareness
Spiritual ascension often starts with self-awareness. As you ascend, you become more attuned to your feelings, beliefs, desires, and the patterns that have governed your life. This introspection allows you to discern between societal expectations and your genuine calling.

2. Connection to Higher Self
Your Higher Self is the eternal, omniscient version of you that exists beyond this physical realm. As you ascend spiritually, the connection to your Higher Self strengthens, guiding you towards experiences and insights that resonate with your soul's purpose.

3. Dissolving Ego Barriers
The ego can often act as a barrier, focusing on external validation and material pursuits. Spiritual ascension helps in diminishing the overpowering influence of the ego, allowing your true essence and purpose to shine through.

4. Synchronicities and Signs
As you ascend and align with your soul's frequency, you might begin to notice synchronicities – meaningful coincidences that guide you or reaffirm your path. These are often seen as signs from the universe, guiding you towards your purpose.

5. Past Life Insights
Some believe that our souls live multiple lifetimes, each with its lessons and purpose. Techniques like karmic regression or accessing the Akashic Records can provide insights into past lives, shedding light on your soul's overarching journey and purpose.

6. Intuitive Enhancement
With spiritual ascension, your intuitive abilities often become more pronounced. This heightened intuition can serve as an inner compass, pointing you towards actions and experiences in alignment with your soul's purpose.

7. Service to Others
A common theme in spiritual ascension is the understanding of oneness and interconnectedness. This realization often leads to a desire to serve others, as helping others becomes an intrinsic part of one's soul purpose.

8. Facing Challenges with Grace
As you ascend, challenges and obstacles are viewed differently – as opportunities for growth and alignment rather than mere setbacks. This perspective can provide clarity on your soul's lessons and purpose.

9. Dreams and Visions
The dream state can offer profound insights during spiritual ascension. Paying attention to recurring themes or visions in dreams can provide clues to your soul's calling.

10. Seeking Solitude and Meditation
Silence and solitude become essential tools in the ascension process. Through meditation and contemplative practices, you can tune in to the subtle whispers of your soul, guiding you towards your purpose.

Conclusion:
Discovering your soul's purpose is a dynamic, evolving journey. While it provides a guiding light, the journey itself, with its experiences, lessons, and insights, is equally valuable. Spiritual ascension aids in this discovery, ensuring that the quest is not just about reaching a destination, but about understanding and relishing the path itself.

Embracing spiritual ascension can thus lead to a deeper, more fulfilling experience of life, where every moment becomes an expression of the soul's true purpose.

Why Alternative Medicine maybe a better alternative?

9/5/2022

Alternative medicine is the treatment that does not fall into conventional pharmaceutical medicine. Natural remedies like Acupuncture, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, and Chinese herbal remedies have been practiced in Eastern countries for thousands of years, but western world could not recognize their potential until recently.
The basic concept behind nature therapy is that it treats the whole person – your mind, body and spirit, rather than just body parts.

The modern medicine focuses on your physical body and cure only the ailments they witness happening, without looking at the root cause of the problem.

For example, an MRI scan or x-ray allows doctors to see inside your body, but they don’t reveal anything about your entire picture – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects.
It Treats Your Problem, Not the Symptom!!

Let’s say you have fever. You visit a doctor who prescribes the tablets that diminish your immune system to alleviate the fever. But they do little to recognize the underlying cause of that fever. Contrary to that, natural approach involves a little more investigation. The practitioner looks at fever as a clue and would trace the fundamental cause. It could be a result of poor digestion, toxicity, emotional stress or nutritional deficiency. The alternative medicine practitioner recognizes it and cures your fever from its root.

If you treat only the symptoms, chances are the same disease will arise again in future because its root still persists. Instead of bombarding the weird chemicals, alternative medicine covers all the basic aspects of your body like nutrition, removal of toxic substances, emotional state, flow of fluid and avoidance of chronic stress to award you a healthy body and peaceful mind.

Since natural remedies eliminate your problem from its source, there is almost no chance of side effects at all.

Can It Cure Serious Illnesses?

Natural remedies have cured thousands of patients around the world suffering from serious diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, heart diseases, asthma, sinusitis, cancer, gastro-intestinal disorders, etc. People turn to alternative medicine when they have taken pharmaceutical drugs for years without any satisfactory results, and evidently with more complaints due to side effects of conventional medicines (pharmaceutical drugs).

Only cases where modern (allopathic) therapy has an edge over alternative medicine are the cases of emergency, accidents or trauma because there is an instant need for patient to recover from damage.

Then Why Don’t all Doctors Recommend Alternative Medicine?

An obvious question that instantly pops-up into your mind. The foremost reason is that doctors have been taught to treat a specialized disease or organ in their medical schools, so they look at a disease as an organ-specific problem and ignore the entire body. The reality is, though a disease is linked with a specific organ, entire system should be cured because the cause of disease might lie in some other part of your body.

Another apparent reason is that the pharmaceutical companies and doctors are not going to make a lot of money from alternative medicine. Doctors, drug producers, chemists, they all profit only when we buy pills that can cause more diseases in patients through side effects. Thus making patients buy more pills in this never ending chain. None of them is going to benefit by prescribing fruits, vegetables and certain lifestyle changes.
The key difference between Allopathic Medicines and Alternative Healing techniques is on how an ailment is viewed and treated.

Allopathic medicine typically looks at a dis-ease and tries to address the symptoms and cause which is mainly at the level of the issue. This type of medicine mainly aims to get rid of symptoms of the problem.

Wholistic healing on the other hand, looks at the entire individual, which includes body, mind and spirit.
It is believed that the body, in itself, it capable of healing. We disrupt our natural state of being by allowing toxins and imbalances to build up over time, which is reflected in dis-eases and discomfort. It encourages readjusting the body so it can heal itself.

Alternative Healing Techniques treat the problem in its entirety and not just the symptoms.

People are typically aware of more common natural therapies such as herbal healing, aromatherapy, acupuncture and so on. But there are many more alternative healing techniques..

How to break a bad habit and develop a positive healthy habit...

9/3/2022

Habits are powerful tools that help you live the life you want. Developing a habit requires self-discipline and belief in your ability to achieve the outcome. It requires dealing with negative emotions and measuring your progress. You can choose to use simple measures such as writing them down or go the extra mile by making elaborate charts. Whatever you choose, make sure that it is something you really want to inculcate in your life.

If you would like to create and develop a new habit, you will need to block a regular time in your schedule. Plan to utilize a few minutes every day to dedicate to the task associated with the new habit that you wish to develop. Schedule that time in, so that you can give it your full attention.
For example, if you learn best in the morning, you will be more motivated and successful if you do it during the earlier part of the day.

Keep in mind that once a bad habit is formed, it is hard to break. Though it is not totally impossible if you can use the powers of visualization along with determined efforts to get out the bad rut!

Visualizing how you would like to feel will help you change a bad habit. In fact, visualization is one of the most powerful tools you can use to break bad habits and also to develop new positive ones.
In addition to visualization, you can also make it a daily habit by setting an alarm. Leaving your gym clothes out the night before will help you establish a new morning exercise routine. Even placing your gym bag near the door can help you develop that habit. And, if you are unsure of how to make a habit stick, you can use SMART goals. They will help you achieve your goals faster. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. I will cover how we can use SMART goals in detail, in another blog post.

Once you have selected what you want to change, you will have to decide why. Our reason for doing something, can provide us a powerful impetus. For example, if you would like to get fit, so you can fit into a flattering bikini when you go to beach for your vacation… or if you would like to tone your muscles so you can look better and feel healthier… whatever your reasons. Till your reasons are important for you, they will provide you with a positive inspiration to take appropriate action towards developing the new habit.

In addition to the physical benefits, positive habits can also boost your overall mental health. To make your new habit more rewarding, consider giving yourself a reward after each session in the gym. A small reward every time you reach a certain goal will help you stay motivated.

When it comes to changing your behavior, habits can be difficult to break, but it is definitely worth it. Keep in mind that positive habit formation requires time and commitment. You need to reward yourself for each success as soon as you notice any results. You can even reward yourself with a small treat or a reward every time you achieve success!

However, it is important to be realistic about what is possible. Even if you want to change your habits, you should be realistic with yourself and understand that if you want to change a very chronic bad habit for a very big aspect of your behavior, then you may need to address it smaller more easily achievable chunks.

As with any habit, forming a new one requires a lot of effort. It requires time and patience. The good news is that you can start with something small, such as quit drinking beer every evening, and build up from there if you are looking to completely stop drinking.

For e.g., if you have a habit of picking up a bottle of beer as soon as you come home and are starting your dinner prep… then for starters, stop reaching out for that beer.

Stall that habit of ‘automatically’ reaching out for that bottle. Instead in the initial days change it to a conscious choice of drinking half a glass with dinner… or stop drinking all together every evening and consciously choose to drink every alternative day or once in three days.

When you open the fridge and would previously reach for the beer as you start your dinner prep, consciously choose to either drink some water or maybe a cup of refreshing herbal tea.

You see how this helps?

What you are doing here is instead of unconsciously (out of habit) drinking each evening… you are consciously choosing when and how much you will drink… if you will drink at all.

This way, you are starting the process of breaking out of the old unconscious habit and consciously choosing to practice a new pattern- which over time will become a new positive habit.

Staying optimistic will help you deal effectively with negative feelings and also the stress of breaking old habit patterns.
Positive thinking is not a ‘cure it all’, but it can surely help in a big way in life- not just to break bad habits and develop new positive ones, but also with other challenges and situations in life in general.

These lifestyle habits will help you to counteract Carpel Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)

9/1/2022

Lifestyle changes can help to offset carpel tunnel syndrome since it is often caused by recurring strain. Carpal tunnel syndrome can be caused by a number of reasons such as smoking, obesity, diabetes, alcoholism, thyroid disease, pregnancy, rheumatoid disease, chilly workspaces, vibration of equipment at work and continuous activity in which the wrist is strained.
The tips below can help prevent carpel tunnel syndrome, as well as alleviate the pain caused by it.

Watching how you sleep is a good way to notice is your wrists are placed while you are sleeping.

You can catch carpal tunnel syndrome before it reaches its full affected by making sure the inside of your wrists are facing the ceiling instead of in a bent position. This will help keep the pressure off.
Since you are probably in your work environment for the majority of the time, or at least a good portion of it, you need to make it a more comfortable environment. Try to find ways of reducing your hand movements. If you work on a computer and type a lot this can be changed by adding wrist protection. Wrists should be kept straight and should not be hanging.

Switching up tasks so the body doesn’t have one particular strain is a good suggestion as well. Instead of using the pressure from your wrist to grab or pick up objects, try to use the entire hand. Make sure you are practicing good posture at a desk with a straight back and feet completely flat on the floor. Take breaks to move your hands around or simply rest them.

If the weather is cold, wear gloves and make sure your hands are never too cold in any environment. Some habits to change can include drinking caffeinated drinks and smoking, since both restrict the way blood reaches your hands.

Practicing a warm up routine for your wrists can greatly help reduce the chances of carpel tunnel syndrome.
Imagine you are doing a push up while sitting or standing up right by simply holding your hands out in front of you with palms facing foreword. Hold this position for five counts.

Move and rotate your fingers and wrists. Make your fists bend until there is a slight strain and hold for five counts. Clench both hands.

These exercises can be repeated as many times as you like, especially during breaks (which should take place once an hour), and should be finished by shaking out your arms as they hang.

Happiness is a state of mind… Timeless Teachings of Lord Krishna

8/1/2022

You may be asking yourself if happiness is a state of mind, or if it is a feeling. Happiness as a feeling is transient - it lasts only for a moment or even a day and then is replaced by another feeling. It is therefore important to recognize happiness as a choice you make every day.

You can choose happiness by choosing to think positively and focus on the positives in your life.
Picture
"Happiness is a state of mind that has nothing to do with the external world."
- Timeless Teachings of Lord Krishna
Develop a "thermostat" kind of mindset. This kind of mind does not rely on external things to make you happy. It is based on internal happiness. You choose to be happy even when you face adversity. In this way, you do not let negative circumstances affect your happiness. You believe that you are in control of your own worldview. You can choose to see the good or bad in every situation.

For example, if you are unhappy with your work, you can focus on the positive aspects (like it helps you to pay your bills) instead of dwelling on the negative parts.

People who practice mindfulness can find happiness by surrounding themselves with people who think differently than them. They learn to become comfortable with stillness, which is where the brain does its most powerful work.

What helps further is that, those who are happy tend to cultivate deep human connections with other people. These connections lead to opportunity and possibility, leading to more external 'happy feeling' scenarios.

Ultimately, happiness is a state of mind, which needs to be traversed like we do any journey and not look out for it, as if it is a destination! Happiness can be cultivated.

What is Colon Cleansing? How does cleansing your colon help in maintaining good health?

7/22/2022

The idea of colon cleansing is that it eliminates toxin build up in the body and encourages healthy bacteria in the colon. It is the method of getting rid of the colon’s waste materials by using a variety of method such as enemas, teas, laxatives, supplement and enzymes. The two types of colon cleanses are visiting a practitioner or buying the appropriate products.

It is possible to cleanse the colon by taking supplements orally, while others are inserted via the rectum. Magnesium, enemas, laxatives, teas and enzymes can be purchased in grocery stores, pharmacies or on the Internet. The second method, which involves seeing a practitioner, who can correctly guide you thru the process, is the wiser option.
Picture
The practitioner will have you lie down a table in order to perform the “colon irrigation”.  A thin tube is introduced into your rectum, which will guide the flushes of water appropriately. When the colon has water in it, the practitioner tends to apply mild pressure to the abdominal area.

The water is then released, similarly to typical bowel movement, and takes out toxins and fluid with it. The entire process can take an hour. Varieties in treatments include temperature, pressure and various water combinations such as probiotics, coffee or enzymes.

Colon cleansing works with the idea that toxins build up over time in the colon and eventually effects circulation of the blood.

This can cause headaches, increase in weight, reduced energy levels and fatigue. It is believed that those who receive colon cleanses have a healthier immune system, better outlook on life and less chance of developing colon cancer.

It is meant to help the digestive system function better because it allows waste to pass more freely through the body. This also helps maintain regular bowel movements and reduces the chance of constipation.

When waste spends time absorbing in to the system, the toxins will eventually reach the bloodstream and can cause ailments like hemorrhoids. Once the waste if removed from the body, many clients feel that they have more energy, better sleep and blood circulation.

Once the colon has been cleansed it tends to allow nutrients and vitamins to be absorbed into the blood, instead of harmful bacteria or toxins that have built up in the walls of the colon.

It is also a preferred method of weight loss because it eliminates food that is low in fiber and gives your colon a fresh start, which can help boost your metabolism and give you a chance to make healthier food and lifestyle choices.

Why incense smudging has been done thru ancient times…

7/14/2022

There are many benefits to smudging, and many people use herbs in their rituals for a variety of reasons. Smudging can help cleanse the air of negative energy and transform objects into sacred spaces.

Sage, for example, has been used as an herbal remedy for anxiety and mood disorders for thousands of years. Its uplifting effect on the mood can help you deal with the stresses of modern life.
Picture
Ancient humans first noticed that a fragrant smoke was produced when dried herbs were burned. The smoke was considered a form of the spirit world, and evidence of spirit within substances is common. These plants have been used in many cultures, from ancient Greece to modern America, for religious rituals.

Catholics have long used incense to communicate with the dead. It is said that smudging evokes an energy field similar to the feeling of prayer in the heart, and the words of the prayer are spoken with the lips, and the smoke carries the spirit of the dead.

Another popular herb in incense smudging is white sage, which is associated with purification. The smell is fantastic and blends well with other herbs such as thyme and rosemary.

While white sage is the most common herb for smudging, other varieties of sage can also be used for this purpose. Other herbs such as eucalyptus, which is a native of Australia and grows in warmer climates in the U.S. has also been used for its many health benefits, including as a decongestant for winter colds.

What is Incense Smudging?

7/13/2022

If you have ever wondered what is incense smudging, you're not alone. Millions of people around the world practice this ancient ritual as a way to keep negative energies at bay. Read on to discover more about this ancient practice and why it's so popular.

First of all, smudging is a practice of preparing a space for ritual and meditation. This practice can help create a positive energy in a room, which can then be used in rituals.
Picture
Smudging is a spiritual practice that involves passing cleansing herbal smoke to purify and create a 'sacred' space. This practice has been used for centuries to cleanse objects and ourselves. Smudging is done by lighting various dried herbs such as sage, cedar, sweet grass, lavender and so on… and then fanning them to direct the resulting smoke towards the item, person, space or object that is being cleansed.

The process of smudging is also used to cleanse the air in an area. For instance, a priest or a spiritual practitioner may use incense to purify a room or an entire property.

In addition to smudging a space, you can also smudge specific objects. This technique is beneficial when purchasing a new home or gift, or even second-hand items. Any object can be smudged, whether it's a mobile phone, a laptop, or a brand new or for that matter even a used car!

The process of smudging involves burning raw herbs or incense in a sacred ritual. These herbs are often wrapped in a wand-like bundle and fanned with the help of a feather. The ash is collected in a fireproof vessel underneath, and the purpose of smudging should be clearly defined and specific. If you're uncertain of how to begin, it is best to consult a spiritual guide to determine which herbs and spices are appropriate for your practice.

While smudging is a relatively simple practice, it is extremely powerful.
