What is Colon Cleansing? How does cleansing your colon help in maintaining good health?

7/22/2022

The idea of colon cleansing is that it eliminates toxin build up in the body and encourages healthy bacteria in the colon. It is the method of getting rid of the colon’s waste materials by using a variety of method such as enemas, teas, laxatives, supplement and enzymes. The two types of colon cleanses are visiting a practitioner or buying the appropriate products.

It is possible to cleanse the colon by taking supplements orally, while others are inserted via the rectum. Magnesium, enemas, laxatives, teas and enzymes can be purchased in grocery stores, pharmacies or on the Internet. The second method, which involves seeing a practitioner, who can correctly guide you thru the process, is the wiser option.
Picture
The practitioner will have you lie down a table in order to perform the “colon irrigation”.  A thin tube is introduced into your rectum, which will guide the flushes of water appropriately. When the colon has water in it, the practitioner tends to apply mild pressure to the abdominal area.

The water is then released, similarly to typical bowel movement, and takes out toxins and fluid with it. The entire process can take an hour. Varieties in treatments include temperature, pressure and various water combinations such as probiotics, coffee or enzymes.

Colon cleansing works with the idea that toxins build up over time in the colon and eventually effects circulation of the blood.

This can cause headaches, increase in weight, reduced energy levels and fatigue. It is believed that those who receive colon cleanses have a healthier immune system, better outlook on life and less chance of developing colon cancer.

It is meant to help the digestive system function better because it allows waste to pass more freely through the body. This also helps maintain regular bowel movements and reduces the chance of constipation.

When waste spends time absorbing in to the system, the toxins will eventually reach the bloodstream and can cause ailments like hemorrhoids. Once the waste if removed from the body, many clients feel that they have more energy, better sleep and blood circulation.

Once the colon has been cleansed it tends to allow nutrients and vitamins to be absorbed into the blood, instead of harmful bacteria or toxins that have built up in the walls of the colon.

It is also a preferred method of weight loss because it eliminates food that is low in fiber and gives your colon a fresh start, which can help boost your metabolism and give you a chance to make healthier food and lifestyle choices.

How Iridology can help in your wellness... (Introduction to Alternative Therapies- Natural Healing series)

7/12/2022

We often hear that the eyes are the windows to our soul and iridology takes that further with the belief that the eyes are the windows to our health. It is also known as the study of the eye’s iris and is used as an assessment method for health.

Iridology has been around for over 2000 years with records found in Chinese and Egyptian history. In the 1800’s, Ignaz von Peczely developed iridology into a modern science in Hungary. He began mapping out charts of the eyes that are still used today.
Picture
Iridology practitioners work with clients by assessing their eyes and using the clues to determine what the problem is. Studying the iris can tell practitioners where the root of the problem is, which is often seemingly unrelated to the symptoms. Whether it is an unhealthy liver, blocked artery or any other cause, iridology helps the patient gain insight into the root cause of their problems. The practitioner’s goal is to vocalize what the eye is showing them.

The eyes have a lot of detail such as the pigmentation, pupil shape and size, fiber structure, color, the white of the eye and many more details that help practitioners learn about their patients. The various parts of the body are clearly indicated in the eye, as depicted in various charts. Iridology does not give a diagnosis but it does help the patient realize what the root of the problem can be and offers lifestyle advice for improvement.

If brain function isn’t up to par, the body is extremely toxic, there is accumulation of heavy metal - these can be determined and explained by the practitioner. Using this information allows the practitioner and the patient to work on strengthening the damaged areas to restore balance and function.

Patients that undergo an iridology session tend to be quite pleased with the results and find that the explanations given by the practitioner to be accurate and honest. Some patients that have an iridology assessment end up using western medicine to treat the problem, which they wouldn’t have been able to do because it was unclear what the actual problem is. Practitioners do not judge their clients and instead adapt to their client's needs and lifestyle, but they do offer advice and suggestions.

After the iridology session, it is completely up to the patient to figure out how they want to approach the problem. Some return for further sessions to see if their health is improving. One session is often enough for patients to determine what they would like to do and how they can improve.

How Cranio-Sacral Therapy can help in your wellness... (Introduction to Alternative Therapies- Natural Healing series)

5/21/2022

Dr. John Upledger developed cranio-sacral therapy with the primary belief that the body is capable and knowledgeable of ways to treat itself. The method requires light hands on practices, which allows the practitioner to be in tune with the patient’s body rhythms. The rhythms can be felt due to the cerebral spinal fluid that wraps around the spinal cord. The fluid fluctuates between highs and lows that allows for it to be felt. The rhythm helps practitioners assess where there is blockage or restriction, as well as offers a visual cue to where energy is being detained from the body.

When a practitioner first meets with a client it is necessary to assess and find out where the client is in terms of well-being, what their main complaints are, where pain is, how they are sleeping, their lifestyle and other important issues that help assessment. It is important for the practitioner to find out what the clients goal for cranio-sacral therapy is.
Picture
After the assessment, the client lies down fully clothed on their back on a table. The practitioner starts at the feet, which allows them to start to feel the rhythm of the body, then following the legs, torso, arms and head. After the overall run through, the practitioner is able to tell where the body needs work. In cranio-sacral therapy the practitioner works directly on the source of the problem instead of where the symptoms are actually being felt.

This can confuse some patients because they might have a pain in their knees but the practitioner could begin work on the pelvis. The reason for this is that the body is giving clear indications to the practitioner that this is the area of restriction. Once the restriction is guided to open up, the symptoms (in this case, knee pain) will alleviate.

The practitioner places their hands on the area that is blocked and follows the tissue. It is believed that the hands are in tuned with the rhythm of the body and that it is the practitioner’s duty to listen and follow through the guidance. The signs of release happen whilst the practitioner moves along the tissue, which can be reflected through pulsing, heat, deeper breathing, tingling sensations and other signs of activity.

Clients often feel very peaceful during cranio-sacral therapy from the minute they walk into the room and lie down on the table. The patient tends to be asked to vocalize sensations as they occur, whether it is pain, relief or anything in between. No two sessions are the same because it depends on the individual.

Explore Aqua Detox for Health & Wellness... (Introduction to Alternative Therapies- Natural Healing series)

5/5/2022

Aqua detox refers to a system of cleansing that uses advanced methods to detoxify, re-energize and re-balance the body. It is a form of ionic treatment for the body. Anyone can use aqua detox to combat the pressure and toxins that are caused to the body through the environment, stress and lifestyle on a daily basis.

The body has a hard time getting rid of the toxins in natural ways after some time. Those that will especially benefit from aqua detox may be experiencing mild symptoms or signs such as memory loss, fatigue, lowered immunity and problems with skin. More severe symptoms include chronic disease and illnesses.

Clients that are not suitable for aqua detox include pregnant women, those who experience psychotic or epileptic episodes and those with organ or electrical implants/transplants. It is recommended to undergo a detailed screening process in order for practitioners to determine if a candidate is suitable for aqua detox.
Picture
Those that are currently on medication are advised to refrain from taking medication at least two hours before the treatment commences. Those that take some form of prescribed steroids or prednisone are warned that they may experience localized swelling during the treatment. This can happen since the medication mixes with the bloodstream whilst the treatment is happening.

Once a client has been screened, it is necessary for the practitioner to educate them on the benefits and procedure of the treatment. The treatment takes about half an hour in total per session. However, detoxification can continue for up to 48 hours after the treatment. It is normal for discoloration to occur during the treatment because of the reaction between saline solution, tap water, metal and low amperage current.

It is hard to find natural circumstances these days that are entirely beneficial to our well-being. With all the pollutants and exposure to toxins on a daily basis, it is necessary to cleanse and detoxify our body. It is necessary to detoxify our bodies because we are influenced by consuming processed foods, medication, water from plastic bottles, chemicals that occur in the body due to stress and other factors that pollute our body over time.

The reason that our bodies contain so many toxins can be from environmental, mental, chemical and physical influences. It is the body’s job to determine what is good for the body and what is bad and should be neutralized. However, the body has a hard time assessing if free radicals, which are often caused by toxins, are good or bad.

Explore Hydrotherapy for Health & Wellness... (Introduction to Alternative Therapies- Natural Healing series)

5/4/2022

Hydrotherapy, or Aquatic Physiotherapy, is a rehabilitation treatment that takes place in heated water (typically a pool). The exercises that take place have a different effect on our body than swimming due to the heated water temperature. It is good for a variety of conditions ranging from arthritis to musculoskeletal, neuromuscular and cardiovascular disorders. Performing the activities in water helps the body to remain buoyant and alleviate pain.

It is beneficial to the body by encouraging muscle relaxation, reducing pain, reducing joint pressure and increasing joint activity.

Hydrotherapy can be used for such a wide variety of mental and physical problems because it encourages exercise and increases their ability to enjoy life. It has also been found to speed up recovery and help the healing process. Aside from these reasons, hydrotherapy also encourages relaxation and reduces stress.
Picture
Hydrotherapy can take place in a number of places. Some hospitals have a department of physiotherapy that features a heated pool, while other places specialize in hydrotherapy itself.

A physiotherapist or their assistant is there to make sure the exercises are understood and executed properly. A number of the exercises improve strength and movement range. It is much less strenuous on the body than aquarobics, a form of water aerobics, due to its slow movements and controlled techniques.

The patient is in the water in the entire time of the treatment. The depth of the water depends on the activities that will be performed and the patients comfort level. Some activities are performed solely by the patient while the therapist guides others.

The majority of activities add strength to the muscles, relieve tension on the spine and encourage joint movement. Even if the patient does not have much range of motion outside of the water, the ability to perform the exercises in the water is greatly increased and more effective. It is common to feel mild soreness, as with any new work out, after the treatments.

Other types of hydrotherapy include baths, sauna, compresses, wraps and Sitz baths. Baths should take place in warm water and last for about half an hour. It is recommended to add Epsom salts, sea salts or essential oils to make the most out of the bath. Saunas and steams use heat to relieve the body of pain or symptoms. A Sitz bath is comprised of 2 containers of water (a hot and cold one) and switching between both. The use of both hot and cold water reduces inflammation and encourages circulation.

Oxygen Therapy- Learn how Oxygen Therapy can help you with your Health & Wellness (Introduction to Alternative Therapies- Natural Healing series)

4/25/2022

Oxygen therapy is a type of treatment that gives our body more oxygen, which we need to survive and have optimal health. Our lungs typically receive oxygen from our environment and air, though there are a variety of illnesses that can hinder our ability to absorb adequate amounts.

Those that have difficulties with oxygen absorption can choose to undergo oxygen therapy in order to improve function and activity. The oxygen comes from a cylinder made of mental, or several varieties of containers. It reaches our bodies through a tube that is connected to tools such as facemasks, nasal cannula or a tube that reaches into our windpipe.
Picture
Oxygen therapy can be performed in a variety of settings, including the home, medical centers and hospitals. Those that need to undergo continuous oxygen therapy tend to opt for the home version.

The amount of oxygen that we typically receive from the air surrounding us is about 20%. Anything higher than this amount raises the oxygen levels in our blood. In a typical oxygen therapy session, the amount of oxygen that enters our bodies is between 30-35%, which is generally administered via a nasal cannula. Those that require 100% of oxygen use facemasks, whereas infants are required to use incubators instead.

Oxygen therapy is most typically used for cases of hypoxemia, which are dangerously low levels of oxygen in the blood. Other conditions that may require oxygen therapy include acute and chronic asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, trauma, chronic bronchitis, cor pulmonale, pulmonary hypertension, heart attacks, recovery after anesthesia and other respiratory illnesses.

In a healthy human body, oxygen is constantly being absorbed through the air and converted into carbon dioxide. When this process is disrupted, due to the body’s inability to absorb oxygen, levels of oxygen in the blood lower significantly and can cause a number of problems, especially regarding tissue and respiratory function. Oxygen therapy aids the heart by helping ease the amount of work that would otherwise be required and lowers breath shortness.

The varieties in oxygen therapy delivery include liquid oxygen, compressed oxygen, devices of oxygen conservation and oxygen concentrators. Liquid oxygen is stored in a portable container that is used for home treatment. Oxygen remains in a liquid state while it is cool and converts into gas upon warming. Compressed oxygen also comes in a tank but has an adjustable flow rate and drastically vary in size, which is typically used to engage in physical activities.

Oxygen conserving devices and concentrators are typically used in hospital or medical settings and are more carefully monitored.

Explore Orthomolecular Therapy for Health & Wellness... (Introduction to Alternative Therapies- Natural Healing series)

4/21/2022

Orthomolecular therapy involves usage of hormones, minerals and vitamins in excessive doses in order to cure and avert a number of health conditions. The dosage of these supplements tends to significantly exceed the recommended daily allowance, or RDA, and therefore needs to be carefully guided and administered.  It is common for practitioners to also require the patient to adjust their eating habits and participate in complimentary types of treatment.

This type of treatment is typically used by those who are experiencing psychiatric diseases such as schizophrenia and depression, as well as alcoholism, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), Parkinson’s disease, hay fever, colds, pneumonia, heart disease, eczema, acne, chronic fatigue syndrome and a variety of other health issues. It works on the belief that many illnesses are caused by lack of proper nutrition and overconsumption of refined and unhealthy foods.
Picture
The orthomolecular therapist has a consultation with the client and discusses the health issues, symptoms and concerns. Depending on the therapist’s evaluation, patients will be required to increase their vitamin or mineral intake, such as niacin or vitamin C. These supplements are typically taken orally. Therapists often advise patients to alter their diet to sugar and dairy free instead.

Other procedures that can help therapists make a more accurate diagnosis include blood tests, hair analysis and urine testing, which can further elaborate on the lack of minerals and vitamins in the body.

Orthomolecular therapy has been around since the 60’s, when it was developed by Linus Pauling. Through his research, Pauling found that many diseases, such as depression, alcoholism, asthma, allergies, blood pressure issues and headaches, could be cured or treated by restoring proper nutrients and vitamins in the body.

Whilst it is well known that we should be eating foods that are high in minerals and vitamins, sometimes symptoms appear too late and require more drastic methods such as orthomolecular therapy.

Unlike conventional medicine, orthomolecular therapy aims to get rid of the problem by improving the patient’s health and by giving suggestions that can be used for the rest of their life. This form of therapy is well regarded in the world of alternative medicine and has been used as a treatment for a variety of mental illnesses, cancer and other problems.

One of the most significantly reoccurring deficiencies in those with mental diseases is the lack of vitamin C. Lack of nutrients such as thiamine, cyanocobalamin, tryptophan, folic acid, L-glutamic acid and pyridoxine contribute to diseases as well.
