The mild yet sweet taste of green peppers makes it easy to add to a variety of recipes. It is a popular addition to salads.
The recommended daily intake for vitamin C is between 75 and 90 milligrams. A single cup of cut green peppers is equal to around 120 milligrams.
When the body receives the right amount of vitamin C, it helps prevent infections and boosts overall health. Blood vessels are healthier and more effective, while the skin, gums and teeth are healthier as well.

Vitamin E is also present in green peppers and helps maintain a good immune system whilst protecting cells from harm. A single cup of cut green peppers has around 0.50 milligrams of vitamin E. The recommended daily intake of vitamin E is 15 milligrams.  Other vitamins in green peppers include vitamin B1, B6, B9 and K. Nutrients include iron, phosphorous, magnesium, calcium and potassium.

The phytochemicals and vitamins in green peppers are known for their antioxidant values. The vitamins come in the form on carotenoids and are powerful for the body.  They help neutralize free radicals, which are capable of causing severe cell damage. Free radicals are a factor in cholesterol build-up within blood vessels that lead to higher risks of heart disease and stroke.

Aside from having vital antioxidants, green pepper’s phytochemicals act as an anti-inflammatory. The phytochemicals provide pain relief and help decrease inflammatory conditions. Green peppers are often recommended for those with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. They are also helpful to asthma cases by helping with airway relaxation, which decreases wheezing.

These foods and herbs benefits the health and workings of our brain...

8/31/2022

It is easy to keep your brain healthy by eating the proper herbs and foods. Adding these items to your daily diet can help maintain the health of our brains and even our memory. It is commonly known that foods which are rich in omega-3’s and antioxidants are vital for keeping our brain happy.
Walnuts, which ironically look like small brains, are one of the healthiest food options for improving your brain health. These nuts are very rich in antioxidants, that also help slow the process of aging.

The reason antioxidants are so beneficial to our brains and bodies is that they fight against damage caused by free radicals.

Simply eating a handful on a daily basis can help improve memory and increase neuron activity.
It is no secret that fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Regular consumption of fish such as salmon, sardines and trout can help reduce effects of aging. Another alternative is to take fish oil capsules. Berries, such as blueberries, are high in antioxidants and can maintain ones memory.

Carrots are not just good for our vision but our brains as well. Luteolin, which is found in carrots, prevent brain inflammation and memory deficiency. Other foods with rich luteolin levels include celery and peppers.  Olive oil happens to have luteolin, polyphenols and fatty acids.

No more than a cup of coffee can increase your brain’s ability to function as well as give you a productive buzz. The same goes for tea. Snacking on nuts and seeds is another way to ensure your brain is getting the beneficial properties it needs to function optimally.

Herbs have long been used to help improve brainpower and memory. Gingko biloba is a herbal supplement that is high in antioxidants and increases oxygen productivity, metabolism and blood. It has a history of being used to help those who suffer from stroke, dementia and signs of memory loss.

Another brain boosting herb is gotu kola. Originally used in India, this herb has many beneficial properties such as phosphorus, calcium and amino acids that help prevent and aid fatigue, amnesia and dementia.
It is refreshing for the nerves and cells in the brain as well.

An excellent herb for improving memory is rosemary. It is loaded with antioxidants and gives a boost in levels of energy as well.

Bacopa, or Brahmi, is excellent for improving various parts of brain function, significantly in memory storage. It also lowers brain stress and is often used in combination with meditation.

These foods and herbs help you to maintain a healthy colon...

8/30/2022

It is vital to keep your colon healthy in order to keep your intestines working well and to avoid disorders such as constipation or even cancer. The best foods for your colon are fruits, vegetables, fish and herbs.

The fiber from vegetables and fruits is excellent for the colon since it allows for healthy and regular movement. Fruits and veggies are also packed with nutrients that act as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, which help eliminate the bad cells from the colon.
Fiber also decreases the chances of cancer in the colon and diverticuli. Aside from fiber and nutrients, fruits and veggies also have B vitamins and folate, both of which are beneficial to decreasing changes of cancer in the colon.

The best vegetable to eat for your colon is broccoli since it has strong cancer-fighting properties that stop the development of tumors. The digestive function is also boosted from the vitamins and folate in broccoli.
Sweet potatoes are known for helping with bowel problems and helping with constipation. They are also strong cancer fighters. Sweet potatoes also have fiber, complex carbs, antioxidants and essential minerals. The combination of the nutrients in sweet potatoes increases bowel movement and eliminates the toxins in the colon. Another fighter of colon cancer in sweet potatoes is phytosterols.

Some types of daily products are beneficial to the colon since they provide maintenance with gastrointestinal functions. Yogurt is especially beneficial because of the lacto-bacteria content, which stops bile acid from forming out of bile. Yogurt stimulates movement in the bowels and allows for quicker elimination of waste, while providing vitamin D and calcium as well.

The selenium found in tuna helps detoxify the bowels and provides a healthy amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Unlike other fatty fish (which are also beneficial), such as salmon and mackerel, tuna also contains omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-3 and omega-6 are vital for warding off cancer.

Herbs that can help keep the colon protected and healthy can be bought in your local grocery shop. Aloe juice acts an anti-inflammatory, while chamomile tea helps get rid of pain and encourages repair.
Other teas that are good for the colon include fennel, peppermint, rosemary, green and catnip tea. It is possible to find natural laxative teas in health food shops that combine these herbs as well.

Psyllium is a very popular herb for treating the colon since it is loaded with fiber. It also helps the intestinal lining become stronger.

People who have gout should avoid these foods...

8/28/2022

Gout can be severely painful to live with since it is the result of inflamed joints. Sometimes gout happens for a couple of days but it can even last for months.

Those who have suffered from gout are better off staying away from some foods in order to help ease the pain. Diet recommendations for those with gout include low protein and low purine intake.
Purines are found at their highest level in meats of the organ, such as kidneys, livers, brain, tripe and tongue.

Organ meats should not be part of a diet for those with gout and even the intake of meat should be kept to a minimum. Examples of meat to eat in small quantities, if at all, include chicken, pork, ham, duck, sheep, venison, veal and lamb.

Goose and turkey are the highest in purines when it comes to meat and should be avoided.
It is suggested that duck and chicken are the best option but should still be eaten in moderation. Purines can also be found in foods that have a base made from animals, like soups and gravy.

Another source of purines are seafood and fish. The seafood to really stay away from includes anchovies, scallops, herring, mackerel and sardines. Other foods that have moderate amounts of purines are halibut, salmon, tuna, trout, perch, carp, snapper and codfish. Other moderately high purines in seafood can be found in crab, oysters, shrimp and lobster.

Refined grains are actually more beneficial to those with gout than whole grains. Whole grains include fortified cereals, whole wheat, oats, barley, quinoa and brown rice. They all have plenty of purines and it is a smarter choice to eat refined grains instead.

Refined sugars, however, are especially bad and can even make gout symptoms more severe by adding problems such as diabetes.

Instead of eating sugar, opt for fruits instead since they will provide the sugar and nutrients that your body might be craving.
It is bad to drink alcohol but the worst alcoholic option is beer due to its purines content.

If one is currently experiencing the severity of gout and has a beer, the symptoms will worsen. An excess of alcohol intake can stimulate gout attacks.

If you have to choose a drink then it is wiser to choose wine, but intake really needs to be moderate and should not be more than one to two glasses per day.
While many vegetables are beneficial, there are some that are still rich in purines and should be eaten in moderation. The worst vegetables for gout include spinach, asparagus, beans, cauliflower, peas and lentils.
