The sweet taste of mangoes can make one forget just how nutritious the fruit actually is. Mangoes are full of nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, enzyme and minerals. Known as the “king of fruits”, mangoes have plenty of benefits that make the fruit ideal for incorporation into a healthy diet.

The fruit reduces cholesterol levels due to its high vitamin C content. Other vitamins and minerals in mangoes include vitamin A, vitamin E, calcium, pectin, potassium and phosphorus. 100g of mango fulfill approximately 50% of the recommended daily, RDI, intake of vitamin C and exceed 50% of the RDI of vitamin A.

Vitamins A and E help fight free radicals and vitamin C is known to deter illness and colds. Vitamin A is also essential for healthy bone development. Healthy cells are encouraged with iron intake, which also improves the blood. Mango has the nutrients vitamin B6, copper and omega-3 and 6 as well.

Potassium in mango aids in monitoring blood pressure and heart rate. Mangoes stimulate nourishing digestion due to their high amount of fiber. High fiber in fruits cures constipation. The dietary fiber in mango is made up of 60% insoluble and 40% soluble fiber.

Antioxidant properties in mangoes help the body protect itself against various cancers such as breast, colon, prostate and leukemia cancer. The antioxidant compounds include gallic acid, astragalin, isoquercitrin, quercetin, fisetin and methylgallat, Mangoes have an abundance of other beneficial enzymes.

Consuming mangoes helps keep the pH level of the body healthy. The acids in mangoes include malic acid, tartaric acids and low doses of citric acid that allow the body to normalize its alkali reserve. In warm climates, raw mango is used to avoid sunstroke and reduce body temperature.

Another reason that mango is a healthy snack is that the combination of vitamin C and beta-carotene in the fruit helps develop healthy eyes and cleanses the skin. Vitamin A is also important for promoting healthy eyesight and helps prevent dry eyes and night blindness.

Mango can be beneficial for the skin by consumption or direct application. Instead of eating mangoes, the fruit itself can be placed on the skin to boost cell repair. They are known to help clear pores and get rid of pimples.

Those who are looking to lose weight and have problems avoiding sugar can benefit from mangoes. The sweetness of mangoes and their versatility in preparation make it a great natural sugar snack.
