If you were to describe garlic without mentioning its medicinal values, your description would be considered incomplete! Garlic is special in its own way because of its potent sulphur compounds that attribute to its undesirable odour. However, these compounds contain a substance known as allicin which has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-oxidant properties.

If you really want to get the best out of garlic, then, you can either chop it or mince it and let it stay for sometime before consumption. Other important compounds in garlic are selenium, alliin and ajoene which greatly help the circulatory, the immune and the digestive systems through detoxification.

Helps in preventing Cancer
If you are interested in lowering the risk of getting some types of cancers, you better take garlic daily. There are properties in garlic such as allyl which contain anti-cancer properties. Research has indicated that such properties prevent breast cancer among women and are good in protecting people from many types of cancers as well.

Garlic acts as an antibacterial compound
The body is delicate and at times, harmful bacteria if not checked, lead to many diseases. Garlic checks the production of these bacteria and viruses by killing them. A person taking garlic will less likely suffer from food poisoning instances. It also kills worms such as salmonella and enteritidis.

Help in Skin treatment
Do you have an infection such as ringworms, athlete’s foot and the like that affects the skin? If you do, then, you can use garlic for treatment! Sure! When it is applied on the skin, ajoene, a compound in garlic, helps in skin treatment.

Help in heart and blood related treatment
There are many ways that garlic protects the heart from heart related complications such as heart attacks. It reduces the damage that can be caused to the heart by free oxygen radicals via detoxification. Intake of garlic lowers blood pressure. The allicin compound found in garlic ensures that your blood pressure remains normal by preventing activities leading to high blood pressure. Also, the ajoene compound prevents blood from clotting inside blood vessels.

Garlic fights allergies
Diallyl, thiacremonone and sulphide are substances which assist the body in fighting allergies due to their anti-inflammatory properties. garlic juice is also used in the prevention of itching and rashes caused either by bugs or insect bites.

There are many other benefits of garlic like helping as a remedy for respiratory problems, assisting in diabetes prevention, and aiding in the reduction of body weight. Garlic also relieves tooth aches. Regardless of how you use garlic, it will always remain of great health benefit to the human body.
