Foods and herbs that benefit and help to maintain great heart health

​Eating the right kinds of food and herbs can have drastic effects on our body and mind. The following herbs and foods listed can help maintain and improve the health of your heart. 

​Starting your day with oatmeal is a great way to get the essential nutrients that your heart loves. 
​Oatmeal is rich is potassium, calcium, magnesium, folate, soluble fiber, niacin and even omega-3 fatty acids. Oatmeal keeps reduce levels of bad cholesterol and also clears the arteries.

Adding flaxseeds or blueberries to your oatmeal is ideal for adding extra nutrients that are beneficial to the heart as well.

Flax seeds are high in fiber as well as phytoestrogens and omega-3’s. 
​Anything high in omega-3 fatty acids is excellent for the body. Eating fish is an ideal way to receiving the fatty acids. Salmon can be consumed two to three times a week in order to reduce risks of a heart attack or blood clotting and lower blood pressure. Other options for fish that are good sources of omega-3’s include tuna, sardines and herring. 
 
Avocado is full of fat that is monounsaturated, which is healthy for the heart. It raises levels of good cholesterol while lowering levels of bad ones. They can easily be added to any diet and are especially beneficial when consumed with lycopene or beta-carotene rich fruits or vegetables since they help increase absorption. 
 
Beans have plenty of essential nutrients and vitamins such as B vitamins, magnesium, calcium, folate, soluble fiber, niacin and omega-3’s. The best variations include kidney and black beans. Adding nuts and berries to your diet is also great for the heart. 
 
When it comes to heart-healthy herbs, garlic is renowned for its properties and uses. It has been used in medicine for a very long time and boosts many benefits. Consuming garlic promotes healthy blood flow, reduces levels of high blood pressure, prevents bad cholesterol from oxidizing and helps good cholesterol with clearing out the bad. 
 
Cayenne, an Indian spice, helps keep the heart strong and toned. It promotes heart stimulation and allows for better circulation. Half a teaspoon of cayenne can be taken with lime juice or any other juice in order to get the daily benefits.
Hawthorn is well-known for promoting healthy blood and oxygen. It has a high content of flavonoids that deter damage caused by free radicals. It reduces levels of bad cholesterol and fat and moderates blood pressure.

​Cacao is rich in theobromine, which is excellent for the heart, as well as epicatechin, which is great for stimulating blood vessel functions.
