Good times change and then times of decreasing and sorrows follow, and then good times start again. This is one of the Universal Laws- like Karma and it upholds for each one of us, not just throughout our soul journey, but also within a lifetime.
Though some people may be facing more harsher realities than some others, it is just not possible that there is only bad in one person’s life and there is only good in another’s life. There is always a mix of the two and many a times these feelings go parallel- i.e. a person may be facing money and career challenges but have a wonderful supportive family.
So, during bad times, we live in hopelessness and during good times we live in fear!
How do we step out of both and empower ourselves with strength and vitality that is untarnished by our external circumstances? There is an ancient story which I have adapted here to exemplify the message of Finding our True Strength…
There once lived a very wise sage in a small hut near the forest. People knew that this sage never lacked any thing, since he was able to create everything he needed with his spiritual and mystical powers. But he of course only took the bare minimum that he needed and being a sage, his needs were merge. One day the King heard of this man and decided to pay him a visit.
“I hear you are able to create whatever you want from the ethereal realm. I am your visitor. What priceless gift can you give me?” In those days it was customary to give gifts to our guests. The King’s attendees started thinking- here is this rich King, what can a sage give him that would be “priceless”.
The sage smiled and offered the king a golden ring. Inside was inscribed- “This too shall pass” … The King was perplexed, and the sage explained- “The one mistake we all do is to get attached- to our joys and sorrows. But the wise remember- this all will pass. Bad times will pass, and good times will too.
The king was happy to have received this priceless gift. He wore the ring all the time- and since then people around him could sense his renewed sense of strength.
It is easy to defeat someone who feels hopeless (during bad times) or fearful (during good times), but how can one defeat someone who is not affected or impacted by either. Such a person functions and operates from their innate sense of strength, vitality and being-ness.
