Are you able to forgive those who have hurt or wronged you? (A Special Message for You series)

In today’s times when we there is so much of anger and unrest in the world, it becomes even more important to keep in mind this invaluable lesson from Jesus.

It is the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant, which is also known as the Parable of the Ungrateful Servant and it appears in the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament of the bible. According to Matthew 18:21-35, it indicates the importance of forgiving others, so that we are also forgiven by the Divine for our own mistakes and trespasses!

This parable was told by Jesus Christ as an answer to a question by Peter (one of his key apostles) about forgiveness…
Picture
Peter asks Jesus, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?”

Jesus replies by saying that he should not only forgive his brother just seven times, but seventy times seven!! Basically, Jesus indicates that irrespective of the number of times, people around us err or commit mistakes or do actions that hurt us, we need to show them kindness and compassion by forgiving their mistakes!

This is when Jesus narrates ‘The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant’…

Once upon a time, a King was reconciling his accounts and he noticed that one of his officials owed him a huge amount of debt! As was the practice in those days, the King ordered for that official along with his family and belongings to be auctioned off and the proceeds to be forwarded to the treasury. The official was horrified at this verdict and fell at the feet of his King, asking forgiveness… He said, “please forgive me!! Please show me some kindness and patience… I will repay everything in due time.” The King was moved by his plea and decided to forgive his debt.

This official stepped out of the palace and came across one of his own workers, who owed him a little amount of money. He demanded that the worker promptly pay him all that was owed to him. Since the worker was not able to do so, he asked for forgiveness and patience from the official, saying that he will shortly pay back his debt! The official was not moved by kindness and had no compassion in his heart, for his worker. He immediately asked for his arrest and requested that proper legal proceedings to be carried out against that fella!

The King came to know about this incident and asked for that official to be brought into his royal court! He asked him “You wicked servant! I forgave you the huge amount that you owed to me, shouldn’t you also have some mercy in your heart to forgive those who owe you small amounts of debt?”

Then the King was so angry with that unmerciful official that he ordered that his previous ‘clemency’ be cancelled and that he be tormented till he paid back all that he owed to the kingdom.
After narrating this parable, Jesus explained to his dear apostle- Peter, that the Kingdom of Heaven is also very similar! If we seek forgiveness for our mistakes, sins, and trespasses from God, our father in heaven, then it is imperative that we show kindness, mercy, and compassion to those who have wronged against us.

It is not for us to judge if their mistakes are big or small… what we need to do is show love and compassion, so that we in turn can receive love, kindness, compassion, and forgiveness from the Divine!

I hope this parable touches your heart.

Remember that even though we may think of ourselves as quite flawless, the reality is that we each have committed many mistakes and trespasses. Before we can expect the Divine to forgive our terrible sins, it is important we show kindness to his people, by forgiving those who have wronged us. If there is anyone against who you harbor anger or resentment, then forgive them… if you feel someone has deeply wronged you or terribly insulted you, still forgive them… forgive them, so you too can be forgiven!

Water- how it is unique in its ability to retain memory- our karmic memory- i.e. not just the details of our karmas (actions) but also the repeating-patterns of those actions (i.e. the samskaras- our genetic memory)

Water is a unique substance that can simultaneously exist in all the three states of existence at the same time- i.e., as a solid (ice), liquid (water) and also in the gaseous form (as water vapor). There are many anomalies associated with water- one of the key baffling ones being how it contracts as it turn solid (which is the case with most substances) BUT water does it only until it reaches the 4°C. At which point, it starts to expand, instead of contracting!! There are many other properties about water- which make it very unique in its physical and chemical properties… BUT what is most important to you and I, is that water is essential for us to survive.

Water is not just a key natural resource that will determine our life here on earth- water is the very indication that we look out for to check if life is possible at any other galactic location!!

Water is found to have one of the best ‘memory’ of all-natural substances. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese scientist has shown thru various experiments how water can easily retain memory of what was done to it or said over it, for long periods of time.
Picture
Even you and I can do a simple cooked rice experiment to indicate the validity of the fact that water (which makes up over 70% of our earth and also our bodies) retains excellent memory!! Now typically we speak of using cooked rice- but honestly, you could use any cooked grains… any natural substance- like a vegetable or fruit. More the water content (like cucumbers, watermelon), that much easier- it will be for you to observe your experiment-results.

Try this out: Take three cups of cooked rice. With the first cup, convey your love and gratitude to it. Thank the rice for its existence, its presence in your life and the fact that it can fill your up and curtail your hunger and so on… with the second cup- be very nasty in your interaction. Express anger, resentment and even hatred (if you want to go to that extreme) and with the third cup- do nothing special. It will work as a baseline!!

You will find that the cooked rice cup that was the baseline and did not receive any special treatment- neither positive nor negative, goes stale within the expected timeframe! The cooked rice cup which received praise, gratitude and appreciation is still fresh even when the baseline cup shows the signs of staleness!! But what will shock most people is how easily and with what intensity the third cooked rice cup deteriorates- the one which was the recipient of anger, resentment, and negative emotions!! That one will not just go stale that much quicker; it will also turn moldy and stink more than the neutral cup!!

As I said, this is an experiment we can all perform in our homes.
What is important to remember is that we do not need to know why something works- till we know for a fact that it works and then we are able to benefit by following those process steps!! As they say, a truly intelligent person learns from other’s experience.

Having said that, we may or not believe that this is true science. We may or may not believe that water ‘retains memory’- but the evidence of the experiment is very clear. We also know the fact that almost 70% of our bodies is made up of water- so if the rice cup reacts that badly to anger and resentment, then how do our bodies react to such negative emotions?? Have you felt ‘withered’ when you were heavily criticized or felt ‘almost light, joyous and expansive’ when people appreciated you??

Something to reflect on and keep in mind when we interact not just with others but also our own self!!

How often do we actually take the time to notice our self-talk?? Do you tend to judge yourself? Do you tend to criticize yourself? Are you less forgiving of yourself when you eat that extra slice of pizza or do something for the umpteenth time, even though you have sworn to not do that behavior!!

It is true that we need to treat our intensions like a true Sankalp (if you are wondering what it means, then you can read more here…) … like a genuine commitment, but at the same time, we also need to ensure that our self-talk which is the most important talk that we ever have in our life- is filled with true warmth, affection, love, and kindness.

How to deal with toxic or stale (stagnant) relationships? - How to get the energy flowing again in your life so that you can attract vibrant people and situations?

1/16/2021

We are all looking for loving and fulfilling relationships, but how many people truly take stock of all the people in their life. It could be our phone contact list or our social media network. We all tend to have many contacts on our phone that have been there for years on end- where we have neither touched base with them nor have, they contacted us!!

Now I do understand that social media network has different dynamics- though frankly speaking we should a give our social-network a good re-look as well, particularly if you use social media only to keep in touch with friends and family- i.e., you do not use it for professional reasons.

Everything in our “sphere of reference” takes up some energy from us. This is the reason that all Feng Shui, Vaastu and other spatial energy experts- ask us to declutter and remove old and un-used things from our life!!
But what about the people in our life?? Do we really take the time and make the effort to give a “clear look” to all the people in our life… to ensure that those who surround us are the very type of people that we really want to be hanging around us. If we do not do that, then there will be un-checked toxic and/or stagnant people who will continue to be within our sphere of reference- sapping energy and vitality from us!!

Here is something I like to periodically do in my life- particularly at the start of the year, on my birthday and other personally relevant days.

  • I will go thru my phone list and check out all my personal contacts.
  • If it is someone that I have not spoken to or interacted with for some time, then I will send them a quick note (email/text) or give them a quick “hello-call”.
  • If we are able to get in touch and rejuvenate our connection, then great. I keep that personal contact on my phone.
  • But, if I find that the person did not bother to reply or that there was no meaningful re-connection, then mentally I wish them well, thank them for the time that we did know/interact with each other and then delete their contact information. I remove them not just from my phone-list but also from my mental space and sphere of reference.
Picture
Doing this allows me to keep a clean and clear ‘relationship doorway’ in my life.

This not only ensures that I don’t clog up my ‘personal space’ with uninterested/dis-engaged/toxic folks, but it also gives me a chance to set forth a heart-felt intension out into the universe that- “I am grateful for all the people that it has sent me and that by clearing up my surroundings, I have created the ‘space’ to have new, more meaningful relationships and connections in my life. That I am willing and ready to welcome new, wonderful people in my life.”

Hope you take some time out this new year- to clear up your people-space and make way for new, loving and caring relationships in your life.

How can you center within yourself- i.e. be in Yoga-Unison with your own self, those around you and also the world at large?- A simple way to break-free of the 'repeat cycles' of time!!

1/13/2021

Passion, emotions, likes-dislikes and so on are considered very normal. We all think that this is part of our ‘life’. What this does is, it tends to constantly sway us- one way and then another!! It seems like our well-being is in the hands of those around us- who seem to control us by invisible strings! But we fail realize that we are the ones who have given them that power.

A person could truly have behaved in a very rude or nasty manner. We could choose to address the problem at hand and then let that incident slide from our mind or seethe and fume over how that person behaved. And when we do the later, we are somewhere giving over the control of our mental peace and wellness into that person’s hands. See how we are orchestrating this?

We tend to think of fortune as a wheel. We also tend to think of time as a wheel. The reason being, we are all very familiar with the cyclical nature of time and aware of its ups and downs. But, what we do not realize is that though various part of the wheel goes up or down as the wheel moves, the center of the wheel is always stationary. It moves from one place to the other- BUT does not experience the “up-s and down-s” and does not feel the turbulence that the rest of the wheel experiences.
Though negative turbulence seems to create imbalance, strongly positive situations can also many a times make us feel imbalanced.

When we get caught in the various situations and events- the various happenings in our life; we tend to go up and down with the wheel of life… with the wheel of time and ironically, though it seems to go along a linear path, we truly get stuck! As if we are simply spinning, but the actual wheel is stuck in the mud!

As people who intend to live a conscious life, it is important for us to relinquish or strong attachments and passion and instead center our self and live our life from that center.

The word meditation comes from ‘medi’ which means center. When we live life from our center, we are constantly in meditation- even while being fully active and conducting various tasks.

The best way to do this is, each time you feel your mind drawn to strong emotions over something that has happened in the past, you recognize the emotion, you evaluate what it is about the situation that still makes you feel involved and vulnerable.

Maybe you regret something you did or said or feel upset over what you perceive as someone’s betrayal and so on. If there is a concrete, conscious action you can currently take to address that situation and positive modify it in some way then surely evaluate your possibilities and if not simply choose to consciously let go of your “reaction” (i.e. the pain, anger, frustration etc.) and let that situation flow away in peace, as time is flowing away (each moment)…

Do we lead a ‘destined’ life? Can situations and events be ‘truly’ predicted??

There are many astrologers, psychics and pundits who say- that they can accurately predict the future. And it is possible that they can be correct in some instances.

But then, probability is a fact and there are always the odds of an event occurring, that someone can guess or intuit to find out about its outcome. Though, determining the correct result, the exact outcome each time in advance, is just not possible in this dynamic, evolving and ever-transforming universe!!

Check out- Destiny ‘vs’ Freewill- what determines our life? i.e. How freewill and destiny operate in our Life

If you have not already read this article, then do check it out. It will help you to understand how destiny and freewill operate in our life.

Do we lead a ‘destined’ life? Can situations and events be ‘truly’ predicted?
We need to remember that, there is no set future which can be determined in a fatalistic way. As mentioned above, it is true that there are certain scenarios/events and situations which are bound to happen (given the strong karmic tendencies around them), but to say that you will experience such and such situation  on any given day or during such period in your life, is to be 'reactive to life'.

Instead what is more helpful is to proactively understand the type of energies that surround a certain day or a certain situation. I.e. what kind of events, behaviors and so on have the most chances or probabilities of showing up around us.
Then depending on what it is that one is looking to accomplish and that particular event or situation, one can choose to respond in a best possible manner.

This way, you are responding to the Universe and not simply reacting to it. This is extremely important for each one of us who are on the path of Conscious Living.

Destiny ‘vs’ Freewill- what determines our life? i.e. How freewill and destiny operate in our Life

Categories: Conscious Living, Guidance, Journey To Oneness, Karmic Clearing, Oracle And Divination and Spiritual Regression

We humans are very peculiar in our approach to our life and the life-situation. When we do something that seems to give good results, we like to claim that it is “I” who did such and such task.

But by the same token when something we do does not give us our desired result we try to find someone else to blame… this could be other people around you- family, friends, coworkers, even ex-friends, old bosses… any ‘scape goat’ we can find to point the blame to… and of course if we still are not able to find anything- then we blame the government, our destiny, even God and so on…
But we need to remember that, every single thing that happens in our life, happens because of us- if your karma did not need for you to experience it, then quite simply you would not!! Ultimately, we are responsible for all that happens to us, around us.

Now this could be at a conscious level or it could be happening at an unconscious level- which will then come across as ‘destiny’. Either ways, we are ultimately responsible.

After all, there are all kinds of situation happening each day all over the world. Many good and many more terrible things happen each day- but they happen outside of our frame of reference. Why? Because it is not meant to be part of our experience.

Does that mean I believe in a ‘fated destiny’ and do not believe in free-will. Not at all. In fact if there was no free will then what would be the point of karma!!
Picture
In the west, people think of karma as the feedback or what is manifested. Karma means action- there are various ways in which karma can be performed and if you have not checked out those articles then please do so…

When a karma is repeated over time then it becomes a samskara, which is a type of memory.

As we know when we continuously perform a certain action, we develop a type of memory which helps us to perform that action without any conscious intervention. This is the reason athletes or musicians’ practice so much. They keep rehearsing, practicing, performing that same action so many times- where it ultimately becomes their muscle memory.

Then during the championships or in a concert hall in the presence of huge crowds and when they are under tremendous pressure, even though their minds can feel a bit perturbed, once they are actually performing the action- it could be the game or playing music;  they seem to be doing it in a ‘zone’.

Their muscle memory takes over and they conduct a flawless performance!
Picture
This can be muscle memory, genetic memory and so on.

So what happens is that when you perform a karma, i.e. an action, the first time around you do it with a conscious intent- because you want to create a certain outcome. But then, when you keep doing it, then it becomes a habit and then you keep doing it even when you do not want that outcome or that behavior is very detrimental to you!!

Now we know that every action has its own outcome. Even simple actions have their outcome, for e.g. if you eat good nutritious food you will feel energized and by the same token if you eat bad food then you will have an upset stomach.

So if now you were to look at this complete scenario then you will see that karma creates outcome and over time it becomes memory- where things just seem to ‘happen’ i.e. you just seem to do things without any conscious intension or involvement.
Picture
Bringing this to the concept of ‘fated destiny’ and ‘freewill’; you will see that karma is your free will and samskaras which is the memory, becomes the fated destiny!!

You have a choice in how you perform any action- with consciousness or without consciousness, with love or without love and so on.

When you perform the same action over time, it will become ‘karmic memory’ and then things will seem to happen (without your involvement- though, you are still the do-er, as it is your memory), making it seem like a destined event.

So, always keep in mind- that in a way, you do choose your destiny by your choice of action- i.e. Karma.

Because of this, if you do not like the “destined” outcome that is in store for you, then work on addressing and resolving the associated samskaras (memories) as well as make wise, helpful choices around what kind of action (karma) you will perform… how you will perform it and so on…

Karma Yoga- The Yoga of Non-action

10/31/2018

We typically think of bad actions as being detrimental. And yes, it is very true. Bad actions particularly those conducted with malicious intent have extremely bad karma attached with it.

But what Lord Krishna teaches us in The Bhagavad Gita is that, typically, there are three types of actions- action (all kinds- performed with the belief that we are the do-er) called as Karma, bad action (any action which is detrimental to human well-being) called as vikarma and no-action (inertia) which is called as akarma.

Note that vi is a suffix used to indicate negative and a is a suffix used to indicate lack or absence. Because of which vikarma is bad or negative action and akarma being inertia or no-action.
Picture
All these three types of action have karma attached with it. We conduct these three types of action, while identifying with our self to be the do-er of that action. It is because of this, that when we conduct such actions, we are bound to the ‘cause and effect’ as well as the feedback mechanism of karma.

Our incorrect association with our identity (ego) leads us to conduct actions which has karma associated with it and because of this, these three types of action behave like ropes of materialism, that keep us (as the eternal soul) attached and bound to this material existence.

Once we are bound to karma, we are bound to this material existence and along with it, we are stuck in these repeated cycles of birth and death.
Now there is a type of action which is not tarnished by karma. Such a type of action is called non-action. This gives us the concept of Karma Yoga.

Lord Krishna explains the concept of ‘non-action’, where we perform our actions as a “non-doer”. We perform the actions with the knowledge that the divine is ultimately the true ‘do-er’ of all actions. We perform our actions as a guidance from the divine. We do what is needed (keeping the principles of self, social and human well-being in perspective) to the best of our capability- with the knowledge that the divine is the real dancer and we are its dance.

When we perform actions in such a consciously evolved manner, while not identified with our physical self (our ego); we also tend to relinquish our desire to the fruits of that action. Because of which, we also somewhere relinquish our attachment to the very action itself.
Picture
Do note that not being attached with the action itself, does not mean lack of focus, determination or apathy. Infact, when we perform action with complete and conscious involvement with no expectation for results or outcome (fruits) then we can perform that action with total clarity, proper focus and required dexterity to the best of our competence and ability.

And it is this detachment, which allows for non-action to NOT be bound by karma and its effect of feedback and law of cause and effect.

An action performed in this manner becomes non-action and the person performing such a non-action, is not caught in the web of karma. Such a person is called as a Karma Yogi, one who performs Karma Yoga- the Yoga of non-action.
