Hariyali Teej falls on Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) Tritiya (third day) in Shravana month and usually falls two days before Nag Panchami. Hariyali Teej is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is believed that Goddess Parvati had to take 108 births before Lord Shiva accepted her love for him on this day of Hariyali Teej, which is celebrated as the day of the Union of Shiva and Shakti.
Hariyali Teej is also known as Chhoti Teej or Shravana Teej. Due to the custom of gifting Sindhara to the daughter and her in-laws during this Teej, Hariyali Teej is also known as Sindhara Teej. Sindhara is a special bucket of gift, containing sweets, henna, bangles and so on, which is sent to the daughter and her in-laws by the parents of married girl.
