Categories: Shloka For The Week and The Bhagavad Gita
Message from this shloka is not only applicable for this week but for all time to come- this is the wisdom of The Bhagavad Gita. The divine song as presented by Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra, which represents the battle of life- as we all experience.
The message from The Bhagavad Gita for this week is from Chapter 6, Verse 19 which says:
“A lamp in a spot sheltered by the Spirit from the wind of desires does not flicker. This simile is used for the subdued mind of a yogi practicing meditation on the Spirit.”
- The Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6, Verse 19
- The Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6, Verse 19
This verse reminds us to not allow disturbing news and events around us to de-stabilize us! Even though we typically think of negative news or events as disturbing, many a times even extreme positive things can derail our mental equanimity and our sense of balance.
In this coming week, mull on the above verse and see how its wisdom is playing out in your life. When you hear of an upsetting event or feel worried in a challenging situation, realize that those are the external situations that are happening in your life.

Ofcourse, you need to appropriately respond as is necessary to address or resolve that situation, but how you feel… how you allow for that situation to impact you, is totally within your control. You determine your response- not just the response, in terms of correct and accurate action, but also response in terms of how you feel (and even more importantly, continue to feel) about that situation- long after it has been addressed.
This is true not just for situations that immediately impact us or those that happen around us but also what we hear in the news and in the greater world at large. How are you responding to all that is happening around you? Can you bring the wisdom of this verse into your life this week?
Can you center yourself and be so balanced and stable within your own self- your deep, inner core; that no matter what your external circumstances happen to be or what is going on around you- you do not allow it to impact your sense of balance and equanimity?
