Hmm... haven't heard back from you! What to do when people behave "cold" or "strange"...

Do you ever feel frustrated when you write an email or send a text and the other person does not respond? Have you stopped to question why?- why are you feeling what you are feeling?

Typically when such things happen to us, we think of the other person as being rude or uncaring. We feel like they do not value us or are not interested enough to participate in our discussion. Our usual response to such behavior is that we try initiating contact a few times and then give up. Or get more aggressive by accusing them for their lack of response or possibly even take the ego-drama further by choosing to ignore that person as your way of “tit for tat”!
And like many things in life, it is not about a specific situation, a specific interaction and what someone else has done, but it is about what that situation or interaction means to us as an individual, what are we doing (karma) and what are we feeling, i.e. what are we taking away from that situation (which will add to our samskars, i.e. karmic tendencies) that really matters.

If we look at this situation carefully, when we initiate any contact with anyone be it verbal, via email or text, it is with the “expectation” of a response. The more we are brought up in a cordial society with norms around “manners and behavior”, the more these expectations get ingrained in us. BUT, if we really look at this situation objectively, it is us putting something out in the universe (our karma). Aaaand like all fruits of our actions (karma phal), the response is not in our hands. It will be as and when and the way it is appropriate for us (as per Universe’s determination) for our growth.

So, at a spiritual level, it is not about if that other person responded to us or not but it is really about how we are responding to that situation. Yes, it is true that you may be looking for factual information from that person which is needed for you to conduct your next step and so on.

I am not speaking about this factual side of any interaction. In Sanskrit there is a word called ta-tha which means as it is or simply put- as is… it is the fact of a situation without all the other emotional and karmic cloud around it. So, I am not speaking about the Ta-tha of that situation, but what and how we are responding to it- our emotional (and karmic) response.
Picture
If we are to observe our response and work thru them, it can hold immense lessons for us. Maybe when a person does not respond, it makes us feel rejected or bring back memories (this life and soul journey samskaras) of other scenarios where we were blatantly rejected or where we felt unappreciated (again an expectation which was not full-filled) and so on. Ultimately from all interaction we (as the ego) hope to uphold the sense of being or our I-ness.

Because of this, by looking thru our response in such a situation, will allow us to figure out un-addressed or un-cleared lessons and samskars. Like all life situations we can utilize this scenario to help surface our un-addressed shadow side and once this shadow side is brought to “light”, it stops being a shadow and then can be actively cleared. Of course depending on the vastness and depth of this samskar, a simple clearing may suffice or possibly it may bring up many other lessons which are hidden under this vast blanket of “un-appreciation” or “rejection”.

What about the Ta-tha  of that situation, well- that is the easy part of the problem. Once we remove the emotions and our sense of “identity fulfillment” from any situation, then addressing what is required is always the easy part. Maybe that person has still not read your message, or they are probably too caught up and are meaning to respond to you at leisure. So patiently waiting for their reply could be in order. It is also possible that the person ignored your message as a way to communicate their disinterest and probably the best response is for you to stop or alter your communication with them.
Picture
As I wrote above, it is not about the Ta-tha of a specific situation. It will be different for each situation, but once we remove our “reaction” and an “emotional, self-identifying” aspect from it, we remove our karmic association and samskar negativities!

Thaaat is the key. Then when we perform the required action and usually it tends to come from a higher inspiration it tends to not only be the “right action” in that situation from a space of love and highest good for all concerned, but also an “a-karm”, where we are not identified with doing the action.

More on a-karm in another post. :-)

What do I do if I do not have any Spiritual Guru? - How can I still obtain Divine guidance and proceed on my spiritual path to ascension?

A Guru guides us, supports us, helps us, and ultimately nurtures us- at our deepest level of soul essence, so we can fearlessly walk our spiritual path and reach higher dimensions of ascension.

This Guru- does not have to be just one person- as we progress on our journey, our Gurus can vary- but one thing is for sure that ultimately, it is the guru who shows us the path and provides us the confidence to walk it!!

In fact, in the ancient Vedic scriptures it is said that without a Guru, one cannot attain true knowledge and wisdom.
Of course, during Vedic times, that worked fine- as people revered the wise and the Divine.

But, in today’s day and age, where most people who claim to be spiritual Gurus and leaders are merely repeating ancient texts and are looking to fill their coffers- in the name of getting tax-free charity/donations or by selling expensive (supposedly life-transforming) courses!!

I am not saying that ALL spiritual leaders out there are ‘fraud’ and ‘bogus’. But one does need to acknowledge that spending time in the presence of many of these self-claimed spiritual gurus, surely also carries a very hefty price-tag!
Picture
What do I do if I do not have any Spiritual Guru? - How can I still obtain Divine guidance and proceed on my spiritual path to ascension?
In such scenarios, what is a new spiritual aspirant to do?? After all, they can choose to self-teach themselves- BUT who will be their guide, their Guru??

Here, the ancient scriptures come to our rescue. It is said that if someone is not able to find or obtain a proper Guru for any reason what-so-ever, then such a person can take refuge in Lord Dakshinamurthy.

Lord Dakshinamurthy is one of the forms of Lord Shiva.  If you are not very familiar with Lord Shiva, then do check out the helpful reference videos I have provided at the end.

Now coming back to taking refuge in Lord Dakshinamurthy and considering him our Divine Guide & Guru… We can think of Lord Dakshinamurthy as our Guru, our spiritual Guide… and start our spiritual practice- our journey to rise our spiritual vibrations, reach higher states of ascension by consciously living life with spiritual wisdom and deeper awareness.
But keep in mind that any relationship (including that between a Guru-disciple) is a two-way street. There needs to be deep communication, not just by us earnestly asking our questions and seeking answers- but by truly being willing to listen to the Guru’s answer.

So, when we consider Lord Dakshinamurthy as our Guru, then we need to build that loving Guru-Disciple relationship with him.

If we have any question or need clarification on some point and so on- then we can ask him our questions and queries during our sadhana-prayers. Similarly, we need to ensure that we spend some time each day (or atleast once every couple of days or so) in quite meditation, listening to the divine guidance and then proceeding on our spiritual path with complete faith and devotion.

After all, we all are the disciples of the Divine and when you cannot find a human Guru or feel concerned about them being ensnared in their own karmas, greed and so on- then seek refuge in Lord Dakshinamurthy.

You do not need to worry about any caste, creed, religion, or other restrictions- the ONLY requirement is that you approach Lord Dakshinamurthy will the serious willingness of a true spiritual seeker, a real spiritual aspirant.

All actions matter- an inspiring tale of kindness

Categories: Conscious Living, Guidance and Self Development

As we attempt to live a conscious life, it is very important to do conscious action. Everything we do has an impact on others.

Since time immemorial, stories have always been a way to pass along an important message. Here is one such story…

Once after a high tide, several star fishes were strewn along a coastline. An early morning visitor saw these fishes and started picking them up one by one and throwing them back in the sea. Soon another man came along the beach for his morning walk and saw the first guy pick up these star fishes.

He asked him, "Why are you doing this? There are thousands of them. You will never get thru all of them.  How does it matter?"  The first man did not say anything, bent down and picked up another star fish and put it back in the water.

He then turned around and replied- "it mattered to that one".
Though it is a very simple story- it has a profound message for all of us- particularly during these unique times!! Right now, there is something we all can do…

It does not have to be something big- like donating large sums of money or some other grand gesture! It can be a simple and single act of kindness- it may not seem much in the grand scheme of things- but it will have a profound impact, to that one situation, that one person (or animal)… to that piece of life.

Because- we are all connected in this cosmos!! Each one of us to everyone else… and when we truly understand this profound wisdom, we realize that you, me and everyone… everything around us- we are all ultimately a piece of this grand scheme of existence called- LIFE.

Always remember that every action we do impacts someone. So, it is important that we are aware of how and what we choose to do each moment...

P.S. There are many versions of this story and don't believe that it is attributed to any particular author.

A powerful Tri-fold method to accomplish all your desires

A powerful Tri-fold method to accomplish all your desires
This Tuesday, i.e. on May 5th. 2020, we have Lord Narasimha Jayanti. After that on Wednesday, May 6th. we have not only a beautiful full moon, but it is also the day of Lord Kurma Jayanti and then the very next day of May 7th. we have Sage Narada Jayanti. Note that the exact dates would vary, depending on where you are located.

Now, at an apparent level this can come across as just days indicated on our Hindu lunar calendar which we are to celebrate. But, if we are to look deeply, there is a symbolic meaning, which once understood, we can help us to benefit and better our life!!

Let us look into this…

Before we can understand the deeper nuances, we need to first understand the symbolic significance of Lord Vishnu. If you are not familiar with it, then you can read it here- Lord Vishnu- The Vedic Archetype of The Cosmic Sustainer.
Picture
Lord Narsimha
Now, both Lord Kurma and Lord Narasimha are incarnations of Lord Vishnu and Sage Narada is a very ardent devotee of the Lord.

Lord Narasimha got rid of the demonic energies of Hiranyakashapu- this symbolically indicates that the ego which believes that it is ‘immortal’ or that it can trick and continue on with its devious ways, will be dealt with by the Lord.
Picture
Lord Kurma
Lord Vishnu as Kurma avatar (incarnation) helped to provide stability as the Cosmic Oceans were being churned during the Sagar Manthan (Sagar- cosmic oceans and Manthan- churning).

At an individual level, this churning symbolically represents the fruitioning of any particular karma from the conglomeration of all our karmas (the good and the bad).
And Sage Narada is an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. He is called as a Rishiraj, i.e. King of the Rishis.

He is not only someone who is very knowledgeable and wise but is also someone who constantly meditates on the name of Lord Vishnu. As we know, Sage Narada constantly chants another name of Lord Vishnu- Narayana.
Picture
Rishiraj- Narada
All of these days- Narasimha Jayanti, Kurma Jayanti and Narada Jayanti are celebrated near the full moon… as we know, the time from a new moon to a full moon is best utilized to put forth new intensions and action, start new ventures and so on and Full Moon indicates completion.

And then, from full moon to the next new moon, is the time to let go- of all that is not needed or is obsolete in our life. It is the time to let go of anything that is harmful or distracting from our life-path, so that by the new moon, we can completely eliminate those toxins from our life.

This way, we will be prepared and ready to utilize the benefic energies of the next lunar cycle for our growth and betterment.
Picture
Harnessing the Power of The Lunar Cycle
In this regard, we note that the ego- which is deluded into believing its own importance and might, can be let go of on the day of Narasimha Jayanti and then on Kurma Jayanti, we can pray and take the blessings on Lord Vishnu to bring more stability and balance into our lives, so that instead of the extremes of the ego- we can slowly start on the path of Yoga- balance and unison.

We can accomplish all our goals and desires if we are first and foremost stable within our own deeper self and are able to address our life with a balanced viewpoint.

And then the next step is devotion, so that we can obtain divine blessings and guidance to help us better understand our path and what we need to do at every juncture, for the best and most beneficial outcomes.

This way, if we are to bring the wisdom of these three days into our life- i.e. we first curb and curtail our ego, next we find balance in our life- internally within our self and also on the outside, i.e. in how we handle people and situations around us and then finally become a true devotee of the Divine. We have love and adoration for the divine… and this will then help us to truly uplift our life and achieve all the good things that our hearts desire.

Once we follow this tri-fold measure, then we will not only accomplish all our goals and ambition but feel joyful and happy as we are progressing along our life path.

So, particularly for these next three days and then going forward, utilize the wisdom of the lunar phases of  the waxing and the waning moon as well as the blessings Lord Vishnu energy- the Cosmic- Sustainer Vedic Archetype to start a new way, a new approach to life.

Utilize the "Power of Light" to achieve your goals & ambitions

Categories: Ancient Wisdom, Global Vedic Wisdom, Guidance and Special Messages

I suppose you have already seen my video on the three days with special energy which helps us to put our plans into action for amazing success.

Vedic culture gives a lot of importance to exact days and times. But since most people are not familiar with the Panchang (Vedic calendar which gives lots of valuable information) and many people do not even understand what all the information-details really mean… so, from a practical stand point, read on to see how we can best set our plans in action to attain success and victory in our endeavors!

So, as we saw in the last post, trying to make new year resolutions typically fails and our plans fall thru within a few weeks.
The better approach is that we utilize the holiday times to reflect on our wants and desires, wishes and goals.

It is very interesting to note that even though most people will say “I want to be rich”, “I want to be successful” and so on… most folks do not have the required clarity around what “rich” or “success” truly means to them.
Here, I am not speaking of exact numbers- but a feeling, an understanding of what it is that one is vying for!! To one person making an extra $1000 a month can seem a big deal and to another person, that is just pocket change!!

Now, coming back to our topic… we should utilize the time during the holidays to mull over and reflect on our wants and wishes. Then starting with the new year, we should start putting proper structure around our desires.

We should lay down concrete plans which answer questions like how we can reach our goals. What are possible obstacles and how can be best tackle them!
Picture
And then, say 19 to 20 days into the new year (this year that phase is from Jan 20 thru till Jan 22), you can start the work on your plans- i.e. start putting them into action. Usually you can expect to get a window of around 3 to 4 days… starting from around Jan 19th to Jan 23rd ish.

Now, don’t get worried or stat sweating the fact, that you cannot read panchang or what if you are doing the work at a “wrong time”.

Frankly, till you start your plans after the Makar Sankranti, which is when Sun enters the sign of Capricorn as per the sidereal zodiac and most importantly- Sun starts its northward trek; this is the most important part.   See the special note below about Sidereal zodiac.

Since it is a festival celebration in most parts of India, called by various names like Sankranti festival, Lodhi and so on… After the Sankranti days, give yourself another four to five days and you should get your special time period of 3-4 days… (that is how I said about considering Jan 19- thru 23 ish).
Picture
Vedic culture is very logical and frankly it is also very easy to understand and follow… after all it is extremely structured and scientific in its approach (not just empirical like much of modern science).

This way, you utilize the cosmic energies in your favor. We all know that if you were to sow seeds in the heart of winter, they are all surely going to rot and die!! To even get a fair chance to grow to fruition, it is important to plant the seeds at a proper time… ofcourse not to mention, take proper care, provide proper nutrition and so on…

In our case- when we start work on our action plan is the first part. Then we need to ensure that we are following a proper structure and diligently working on our plans, obtaining any required assets, competencies and so on to finally obtain our objective, our goal!

The added light from Sun’s northward trek, called Uttarayana will help you in obtaining all the positive energies that you require to work on your goals and ambitions.

This in turn will at least provide you with a suitable environment to achieve success.
Will you get it or not- that would depend on many other factors such as your abilities, your efforts, your karmas and so on… more on that in another post.

Special note: In case you are wondering about sidereal and tropical zodiac, then sidereal calculations are used in Vedic Astrology (originally called Jyotish- The Science of Light) and tropical calculations are used in what is considered as Western Astrology.

Typically, there will be a degree lag of around 23 degrees between the two zodiacs.

Destiny ‘vs’ Freewill- what determines our life? i.e. How freewill and destiny operate in our Life (Understanding Karma & Karmic Clearing series)

1/3/2020

Categories: Conscious Living, Guidance, Journey To Oneness, Karma, Oracle And Divination and Spiritual Regression

We humans are very peculiar in our approach to our life and the life-situation. When we do something that seems to give good results, we like to claim that it is “I” who did such and such task.

But by the same token when something we do does not give us our desired result we try to find someone else to blame… this could be other people around you- family, friends, coworkers, even ex-friends, old bosses… any ‘scape goat’ we can find to point the blame to… and of course if we still are not able to find anything- then we blame the government, our destiny, even God and so on…
But we need to remember that, every single thing that happens in our life, happens because of us- if your karma did not need for you to experience it, then quite simply you would not!! Ultimately, we are responsible for all that happens to us, around us.

Now this could be at a conscious level or it could be happening at an unconscious level- which will then come across as ‘destiny’. Either ways, we are ultimately responsible.

After all, there are all kinds of situation happening each day all over the world. Many good and many more terrible things happen each day- but they happen outside of our frame of reference. Why? Because it is not meant to be part of our experience.

Does that mean I believe in a ‘fated destiny’ and do not believe in free-will. Not at all. In fact if there was no free will then what would be the point of karma!!
Picture
In the west, people think of karma as the feedback or what is manifested. Karma means action- there are various ways in which karma can be performed and if you have not checked out those articles then please do so…

When a karma is repeated over time then it becomes a samskara, which is a type of memory.

As we know when we continuously perform a certain action, we develop a type of memory which helps us to perform that action without any conscious intervention. This is the reason athletes or musicians’ practice so much. They keep rehearsing, practicing, performing that same action so many times- where it ultimately becomes their muscle memory.

Then during the championships or in a concert hall in the presence of huge crowds and when they are under tremendous pressure, even though their minds can feel a bit perturbed, once they are actually performing the action- it could be the game or playing music;  they seem to be doing it in a ‘zone’.

Their muscle memory takes over and they conduct a flawless performance!
Picture
This can be muscle memory, genetic memory and so on.

So what happens is that when you perform a karma, i.e. an action, the first time around you do it with a conscious intent- because you want to create a certain outcome. But then, when you keep doing it, then it becomes a habit and then you keep doing it even when you do not want that outcome or that behavior is very detrimental to you!!

Now we know that every action has its own outcome. Even simple actions have their outcome, for e.g. if you eat good nutritious food you will feel energized and by the same token if you eat bad food then you will have an upset stomach.

So if now you were to look at this complete scenario then you will see that karma creates outcome and over time it becomes memory- where things just seem to ‘happen’ i.e. you just seem to do things without any conscious intension or involvement.
Picture
Bringing this to the concept of ‘fated destiny’ and ‘freewill’; you will see that karma is your free will and samskaras which is the memory, becomes the fated destiny!!

You have a choice in how you perform any action- with consciousness or without consciousness, with love or without love and so on.

When you perform the same action over time, it will become ‘karmic memory’ and then things will seem to happen (without your involvement- though, you are still the do-er, as it is your memory), making it seem like a destined event.

So, always keep in mind- that in a way, you do choose your destiny by your choice of action- i.e. Karma.

Because of this, if you do not like the “destined” outcome that is in store for you, then work on addressing and resolving the associated samskaras (memories) as well as make wise, helpful choices around what kind of action (karma) you will perform… how you will perform it and so on…

Lessons from a Flowing Water Stream

11/11/2018

We all want to advance, make long strides and emerge a winner. When challenges come up and we feel blocked, we feel frustrated.

When we run into challenging situations or people, our first instinct is to push harder and try to break thru it! When we take such an aggressive approach, sometimes we may be able to overcome the challenging situation, but what we end up leaving behind is a trail of blood and tears. We leave angry people who we may hurt in the process.

Even though we may feel justified that well- “they were the ones who were ‘bad’ and blocking me, so what if I hurt them”. Such kind of aggressive and abrasive behavior gets you further caught in the web of karma!

Even if those folks were in the wrong, they will remember how you made them feel and then retaliate (when they can) and this will cause you more challenges and suffering if not right away then surely down the line!
Picture
But many a times, these challenging times come up, so we can pay a closer look to what it is we are doing and finesse our technique and methodology. There is much for us to learn from a calming flowing stream in the mountains.

It is in no hurry to get to the sea/ocean- but it is very efficient in how it maneuvers the toughest rock to continue on its path. In the process it molds all that comes in contact with her- not burn it down have a raving wild fire- destroying all that is in the path!

But calmly and surely wearing down the resistance, where it continues on its path and what it leaves behind also is now morphed into a beautiful canyon or gorge. She how water works?
What is even more amazing is that since water retains all memory that it comes in contact with, flowing in this calm way allows it to maintain its own peace and serenity while doing what it needs to do (which is flow). It is the same for us.

We retain memory of all that we come in contact with and when we conduct our life with love, peace and joy as against of aggression and anger, then it helps to build good samskars (karmic memory) in us, which in turn help to counter act the negative samskars (negative karmic memory) and adverse karmas!

We can learn so much from the flowing stream. We need to mull on the lesson that a flowing stream is bringing us.

“How can I continue on my chosen path while moving around challenges and obstacles- not in aggression or anger, but with calm and calculated maneuvering, so that I am not leaving behind a trail of blood and tears but something good, as I myself am moving on to bigger and better things… “

Karma Yoga- The Yoga of Non-action

10/31/2018

We typically think of bad actions as being detrimental. And yes, it is very true. Bad actions particularly those conducted with malicious intent have extremely bad karma attached with it.

But what Lord Krishna teaches us in The Bhagavad Gita is that, typically, there are three types of actions- action (all kinds- performed with the belief that we are the do-er) called as Karma, bad action (any action which is detrimental to human well-being) called as vikarma and no-action (inertia) which is called as akarma.

Note that vi is a suffix used to indicate negative and a is a suffix used to indicate lack or absence. Because of which vikarma is bad or negative action and akarma being inertia or no-action.
Picture
All these three types of action have karma attached with it. We conduct these three types of action, while identifying with our self to be the do-er of that action. It is because of this, that when we conduct such actions, we are bound to the ‘cause and effect’ as well as the feedback mechanism of karma.

Our incorrect association with our identity (ego) leads us to conduct actions which has karma associated with it and because of this, these three types of action behave like ropes of materialism, that keep us (as the eternal soul) attached and bound to this material existence.

Once we are bound to karma, we are bound to this material existence and along with it, we are stuck in these repeated cycles of birth and death.
Now there is a type of action which is not tarnished by karma. Such a type of action is called non-action. This gives us the concept of Karma Yoga.

Lord Krishna explains the concept of ‘non-action’, where we perform our actions as a “non-doer”. We perform the actions with the knowledge that the divine is ultimately the true ‘do-er’ of all actions. We perform our actions as a guidance from the divine. We do what is needed (keeping the principles of self, social and human well-being in perspective) to the best of our capability- with the knowledge that the divine is the real dancer and we are its dance.

When we perform actions in such a consciously evolved manner, while not identified with our physical self (our ego); we also tend to relinquish our desire to the fruits of that action. Because of which, we also somewhere relinquish our attachment to the very action itself.
Picture
Do note that not being attached with the action itself, does not mean lack of focus, determination or apathy. Infact, when we perform action with complete and conscious involvement with no expectation for results or outcome (fruits) then we can perform that action with total clarity, proper focus and required dexterity to the best of our competence and ability.

And it is this detachment, which allows for non-action to NOT be bound by karma and its effect of feedback and law of cause and effect.

An action performed in this manner becomes non-action and the person performing such a non-action, is not caught in the web of karma. Such a person is called as a Karma Yogi, one who performs Karma Yoga- the Yoga of non-action.

All attachments lead to mental imbalance and finally losing one’s peace of mind

10/26/2018

Are you feeling a strong (negative or ‘seemingly’ positive) pull towards someone? Not just in terms of anger   or resentment, but it could also be a strong infatuation or   feeling   drawn to them.   I am saying ‘seemingly’ since all pulls and attachments are ultimately negative!

All   attachments   lead to   more   attachments and passionate entanglement. When these strong passions are not fulfilled, then   it leads to   anger and more obsession and then it leads to even more attachment and this becomes a negative spiral that easily gets out of control and makes the person lose their peace of mind.
Picture
Peace of mind is absolutely essential for each one of us. It is needed for us to even lead a normal life. Even if one wants to enjoy their lunch or sleep; we need to have a peaceful mind. If our mind is always turbulent, we will not be able to perform life’s most simple tasks and we definitely cannot feel joy without first there being peace.

So, when we get entangled in attachments and this in turn gets us more and more entangled in the situation, this initially turns to frustration, but this frustration soon leads to anger. When we are angry, it is even more difficult for us to see reason and re-attain our sense of mental balance. Because of this, it leads to more and more to frustration and anger to the point to one’s complete destruction.

There are many instances in history that indicate how strong infatuations, attachments and other such strong acts of passion- has led to anger and ultimately fall of great Men and Women (of apparent wisdom) along with their vast Kingdoms!
Though this may seem to be the case only when the object of one’s desire is not met- it is not the case! Even if one attains what one feels attracted to- it still leads to a sense of empty-ness and this just makes us want to look for something-else, something-new and this over time turns to boredom.

Sooner or later, this boredom will not be met, and this then turns to frustration. Frustration turns to anger and then anger leads to more dissonance, imbalance and ultimately destruction.

The cycle of attachment unless broken, always leads to more attachment and finally to one's destruction.  It keeps us caught in this cycle of "birth and death", lifetime after lifetime!

This quote by Lord Krishna, from The Bhagavad Gita beautifully explains this important lesson:

"One develops attachment to sense objects by thinking about sense objects. Desire for sense objects comes from attachment to sense objects, and anger comes from unfulfilled desires.
Delusion or wild idea arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. Reasoning is destroyed when the mind is bewildered. One falls down from the right path when reasoning is destroyed.”

- From The Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2 and Verses: 62- 63
