Feel the Beat of your Heart and the Universe with Drums- pure tunes to awaken your body's Chakra Energy Centers. We hope you enjoy listening to it.
It is said that the Universe plays in rhythm of Shiva\s damru, which is a small hand-drum. There is something absolutely amazing, primal and pure about the drums. They awaken our entire body- after all our body is nothing but made up of membranes and they seem to truly get in sync with to the beat of the drums.

We all have heard of the inspiring quote that says something like ‘if you shoot for the moon and if you miss, then at least you will still be among the stars”!! Now, I totally understand why folks use this quote.
But what I want to highlight is that instead of thinking that if not this then I have a great alternative, many a times in life it is important to say- this is it!!
What I want to highlight here, is the power of “Sankalp”. When you make that un-bending, un-wavering decision for whatever it is that you want- it can be success, it can be breaking a bad habit or it can simply be continuing on the spiritual path, once you make a Sankalp about it, then instead of getting caught in negative spirals when you do an action against your Sankalp, you start to actively evaluate the issue and then start addressing all such issues- evaluate the root cause and then put in remedial measures that remove the problem from the very roots!!
Since those issues had been stopping you from accomplishing what you wanted, once you address them, remove them then it clears the way for you to reach your goal. You want the moon, then just go for the moon. Make a Sankalp and then do the needed actions and activities that will take you to the moon. Don’t weaken your resolve by thinking that it is okay to settle with the stars.
See what I mean?

There is a very old folklore. Once upon a time, there was this guy who had been living in an ashram (spiritual school) from a very young age. As he became a young adult, his teacher asked him to go to another nearby town, to spread spiritual knowledge. The teacher told him that he will check in on him in a year to note his progress.
The young man packed his few meagre belongings and started on his journey to the nearby village. It took him a few days of walking thru thick forest, but finally he reached his destination.
Once the cow came, life seemed to be going really great! He had not eaten a full meal in a long time. Drinking fresh milk in plentiful seemed absolutely heaven sent. But then maintaining a cow was not a simple task! He had to wash her and collect all the dung!
So, he decided to marry- so that his bride could help him with these mundane material duties. But then no girl was willing to marry a person who did not have a job!
So, he decided to start working at a near by farm. Now, his days were spent doing the farm work and his evenings were spent with his new bride.
Soon- he was so caught up in his household chores that he hardly found any time to pray- leave alone do meditation or a long sadhana. Soon, he was so caught up in all his chores and duties that he forgot why he had come to that village in the first place- which was to spread spiritual wisdom!
The year passed by in a jiffy. One day his teacher came to the village looking for him. His teacher was shocked to find him completely ensnared by the ropes of materialism.
Though his teacher was unhappy to see his disciple side-tracked, he wished him well and went back to his own ashram. Our fella continued with his married life. At first everything seemed to be picture perfect. A nice paying job, a loving wife and a clean hut to live in- what more could he ask! But soon, he had kids and his hut was not big enough for all of them. He needed to get a bigger house which also meant he needed lots of money. So, he decided to borrow money and buy a good house.
After a few years, his village had a bad spat of drought and hardly any farming activities were possible. He lost his job and soon his lenders started troubling and threatening him to pay back his loan. He did not have the money and finally one day, he felt so low and dejected that he decided to hang himself!!
A nice young man who had started out on his journey of life with bright dreams in his eyes of starting a great spiritual-preaching practice was there hanging from the tree- ensnared by the ropes of material life!
This story has many versions and is part of ancient folklore in many areas of the world. Though details may change- the crux doesn’t- once the young man gets involved in a material pursuit, in this case- building of the hut; pretty soon, he gets pulled into more and more material obligations finally leading to pain, suffering and dejection!
So, what are we to do?? Obviously, all of us cannot live the life of a monk and stay in a spiritual facility. In fact, most of us- are real people with real lives- with family, children, business, job and so on. What are we to do?
The key is to be consciously aware of our desires, wants and wishes. Are you living within your means? Are your material goods helping to enrich your life and truly contribute towards allowing you to do and be who you really would like to be, or are your ambitions making you constantly strive for ‘more and more’- more wealth, more fame, more money and so on to the point, where your material objects and objectives ‘own’ you.
Reflect on this- what are you doing in your own life? How can you ensure that your ropes of materialism will help you to build a true and deeply satisfying life and not become your death noose?

Whenever we visit a temple (church, cathedral or any place of worship) we see it full of devotees! We see people ardently praying. BUT are they really praying? No. Most of the people are simply asking for ‘favors’ from the divine.
Most are trying to reach the divine to ask for various gifts and boons- for some it could be for a painful phase in life to pass and for others it could about starting a new profitable venture! Some may be praying for their own self and others for their near and dear ones. But, just about most of the people in temples, churches and other places of worship are there to ask for something…
Now, it is true that this feeling of divine presence as someone, who we can approach to voice our pain and unhappiness, plays a very therapeutic role in most people’s lives. And realistically speaking, it has its own place in obtaining solace when one feels very beaten up and battered down in a particular life-situation.
But, as folks who have chosen to lead our lives consciously, it is important to conduct at least one prayer session in a day where it is simply about ‘praise and gratitude’. That is all… Thank the divine for all that they are providing you and for all that there is and merely praise the divine- after all, we live in a magnificent and magical universe- and the creator surely needs to be praised for having manifested such an amazing creation!
#praise #gratitude #prayers #givethanks #maitreyiparadigm #maitreyigautam
This makes for the grand creation that we live in. But instead of celebrating this diversity, we typically use it as a way to segregate and separate!
It is only when we are very far from our normal location that we look for some commonality to find comfort and safety in the familiar! For e.g. When you travel, if you are to meet someone from your country/heritage, it seems to give you a special happiness.
If we are to look deep, we will notice that there are always so many commonalities- even with a person who is at an apparent level very different from us! Let’s take an example of a white person from a rich western European nation and a black person from a very poor African nation. At an apparent level, there will be many differences- skin color, affluence and possibly even health and physical well-being.
BUT, when we look beyond the outer physical differences, we can observe the commonalities- their sense of humor could be different, but laughter is going to release the similar endorphins and ‘happy chemicals’ in their brain! Similarly, what moves them emotionally and how they express their pain could be different, but both of their tears would be salty!
And this is not just the case with another human being. ALL manifested forms have the same underlying divinity. Observe and see the commonality between you and a dog, cat, tree... can you feel the very life-force (the divine presence, it's energy) pulsating in every life-form?
Nowadays, it has become imperative for political and social reasons to say that we believe in equality. But how many of us, are really able to see this common-ness between all and everything in creation??
Make it a point to look at the one-ness that underlies everything in creation. After all, it is the same Divine energy that manifests itself in all this myriad of forms. And this is not limited only to the animate objects! The divine energy underlies even the un-animate objects.
Everything that is created is simply a manifestation of that one Divinity!

There are many things that we all “think” we know! It could be about a particular topic of expertise where we may feel like we know all that there is to it. When it comes to people around us, most of us tend to think we know those people. What we fail to realize is that there are many facets to each person and even if you have spent a lifetime in close proximity to someone like your parent or spouse, you probably still don’t know all there is to them.
And, unfortunately many a times, we don’t know our self either! We are always immersed in activities and never take the time to simply be with our self in contemplation and meditation. Really figure out who we are and what is our real nature.
When we meet someone, interact with them; it is wise to take a few minutes out and ask oneself- “what do I think of them?”
Try to really question your perception of them, your inference about them with an unbiased mind. Try to observe them, really listen to what they are saying and see if your conclusion/your branding of “who they are” is different than who they seem to be as they are speaking to you.
Each day set aside some time to also reflect on your own self. Take some time out to also reflect on your own self. After all, most of us tend to conclude about our own self too- I am beautiful, I am smart, I am rich and so on.
We all change and morph over time. See how you are changing. Are you going in the direction you want to… i.e. are you morphing and transforming into a better version of yourself or are you regressing into your old bad behaviors or even worse picking up new detrimental ‘thought and action’ patterns!!
See, if you can find that gap between your conclusion of who you think someone is and who they possibly could be!

Our thinking seems to be constantly shrouded in duality. We like this, and we don’t like that. We like this person and we don’t like someone else.
Unfortunately, most of this evaluation and branding happens in a subtle and unconscious manner. Our preferences are steered by our samskaras, which are the karmic tendencies which then go on to become our “vrittis” i.e. our behaviors which are governed by latent and innate tendencies.
But someone who is truly wise knows that the same divine is there in each one of us. He/she is able to see the common ‘one-ness’ underneath all the diversity that is around us.
What we need to do is to develop the ability to see the “one-ness” in all. After you meet someone or interact with someone, it is helpful to take a moment to reflect on the commonality between you and that person you were just speaking with. However different you may be at an apparent level; can you see the underlying common aspect between both you and them?
If you both belong to the same sex, same community, same work place, it would be easy to find more commonalities- but can you try to see beyond these- at a fundamental level, how/what is common between all of you?

Surrender! The word immediately brings to our mind the image of someone being defeated and giving up. Now that could be the case if it was a battle with another person or a group. BUT, what are we supposed to do in life?
We have always been told to “buck up”, “take charge” and always be in control. And there is some truth to this- but the person we need to do this with is, us- we need to take charge of our self and be in control of our own thoughts and action. Instead, what most of us end up doing is that we try to control everything external- other people, situation, events and so on.
This becomes a losing battle from the very start, since- the external situation never was and never will be in any one person’s control. There are complex ways in which life itself determines who gets what, when and so on. Life determines these external factors- our job is to respond to life in the best possible way that we can. But that seems so difficult to do- how can we initiate this important process of surrender? How can we win and achieve all our goals, ambitions and dreams while surrendering to the Divine, to Life?
When we realize that the divine is the source of all and everything in existence, then it becomes not only easy but almost logical to surrender all outcomes to the divine and do what is needed in any given situation.
When we work at something with faith and devotion, then sooner or later it will yield to us! This is just the “nature of nature".
So, keep your attention on the source of your inspiration, the divine within your heart, as you go about the day, carrying out all the activities...

Passion, emotions, likes-dislikes and so on are considered very normal. We all think that this is part of our ‘life’. What this does is, it tends to constantly sway us- one way and then another!! It seems like our well-being is in the hands of those around us- who seem to control us by invisible strings! But we fail realize that we are the ones who have given them that power.
A person could truly have behaved in a very rude or nasty manner. We could choose to address the problem at hand and then let that incident slide from our mind or seethe and fume over how that person behaved. And when we do the later, we are somewhere giving over the control of our mental peace and wellness into that person’s hands. See how we are orchestrating this?
We tend to think of fortune as a wheel. We also tend to think of time as a wheel. The reason being, we are all very familiar with the cyclical nature of time and aware of its ups and downs. But, what we do not realize is that though various part of the wheel goes up or down as the wheel moves, the center of the wheel is always stationary. It moves from one place to the other- BUT does not experience the “up-s and down-s” and does not feel the turbulence that the rest of the wheel experiences.
Though negative turbulence seems to create imbalance, strongly positive situations can also many a times make us feel imbalanced.
When we get caught in the various situations and events- the various happenings in our life; we tend to go up and down with the wheel of life… with the wheel of time and ironically, though it seems to go along a linear path, we truly get stuck! As if we are simply spinning, but the actual wheel is stuck in the mud!
As people who intend to live a conscious life, it is important for us to relinquish or strong attachments and passion and instead center our self and live our life from that center.
The word meditation comes from ‘medi’ which means center. When we live life from our center, we are constantly in meditation- even while being fully active and conducting various tasks.
The best way to do this is, each time you feel your mind drawn to strong emotions over something that has happened in the past, you recognize the emotion, you evaluate what it is about the situation that still makes you feel involved and vulnerable. Maybe you regret something you did or said or feel upset over what you perceive as someone’s betrayal and so on. If there is a concrete, conscious action you can currently take to address that situation and positive modify it in some way then surely evaluate your possibilities and if not simply choose to consciously let go of your “reaction” (i.e. the pain, anger, frustration etc.) and let that situation flow away in peace, as time is flowing away (each moment)…
